since the last update... the firewall was painted along with the motor and body was put on the frame. now the body shop that i hired to do the job decided to close shop and i decided to pull the car out before shit hit the fan. now its up to me to finish the body work and paint job.

started by blocking the car with the long file 120 grit and some hand blocking 150. they did a terrible job with the high build primer, it was real tough to get smooth, but i got it. body worked a few areas that they missed and now im ready for the next round of block sanding. but before i get any further i want to tackle the brakes and all other mechanical work so the car will be turn key again.

the body color is on the firewall, not shown here but the body will have a platinum pearl mixed into the clear on the first coat.

the lines on the car are very nice and panels are straight, some fine tuning and we should have body color this month on. i spray self etching primer on areas that went through to metal to protect it and the rest is a lacquer guide coat.

    thanks!

finally got some color on this thing! its only base coat, more to come later. took a while cause i went ahead and took care of all the mechanical work first and fine tuned some more body work. but its finally in color.

ok so here is what i did... the car was "ok" but i decided to go ahead and sand it back down with some 800 to get the paint a little "smoother" so today i covered the complete car with more of the same blue base (including the white fades), then i went back over and made new white fades / highlights. the fades are also carried into the door jambs. then i attempted to add some darker blue to the rocker area, but it look like shit. so i decided less is more in this case and made the rocker the baby blue again.

mixed up a lot of platinum pearl on the first batch of clear, then 2 more heavy coats of clear without the pearl. these 2 coats ill use to give it a wet sand and buff.

its really hard to capture the pearl in the pics, but in person it is neat to look at. cant wait to see it in the sun.

thank you guys! im glad you all like it. again the pearl in person adds a lot to the paint job. yes this car was at pamona about 1 year ago. im very lucky to have a customer that has given me a lot of freedom in how the car will look. the interior is going to be just as neat as the exterior.

    thanks again

got some more paint done tonight guys...

well this is what we started with... again i wanted something "simple" but just a box with boarder wasnt enough for me... so i added a couple scallops into the design...

then i masked off the white and stretched the lace that my grandma gave me... she already knew what i was going to use it for

i mixed up some oriental blue and sprayed it through the lace a couple times, pealed the lace off and coated the area a couple more times. then some burple was mixed up for darker edges, both form house of color. now im still getting the hang of this stuff so its not perfect but each time i learn something new...

unmask everything and begin to cover it with clear. i try and not reduce the clear at first so it lays on thick, then the last coats i reduce to stretch them out. i will be sanding it down tomorrow afternoon to see how the edges are doing, then i will decide if reclearing is in order.

    hope you all like it.
