Between being around drag race cars and a year of listening to these bad boys, I don't hear so well anymore. Go figure.. But I'm proud I served and it was a real honor to have known some of the guys I met. Glad I'm still in touch with some of them. Happy Veterans Day Brothers!

After turning down the chance to serve when I was younger, I worked really hard to join recently. I enlisted in the Air National Guard at the tender age of 39 and will attend Basic Training this winter. My 40th birthday will pass during Basic, and I'm incredibly proud to serve my country as thanks to everyone who came before me.

Heres a picture of my "Hot Rod" from back in the day, USS James Monroe, SSBN622. I was a Machinists Mate, learned a lot turning wrenches on that

I heard the 175's could lob a shell 32 miles out. We also had 8" guns in my unit. C Battery 2/94th Arty. Right up by the DMZ.

As it was with me, my father was in for WW2, Korea, and Nam and my grandfather rejoined for WW1 so there also was really no question. Thanks to one and all.

Well, I posted at 7:30am on this thread and since then....
Maybe motivated by folks on here, I called a buddy of mine from the Marines that I had not talked to in nearly 40 years. Shoot, I was best man in his wedding and he is still with the same gal and has 4 grandkids. Had googled him and found his Phone Number months ago but was waiting for the right time to call. No time better than Veterans Day. Really Kool deal -- Thanx HAMB

Anyone that's been in will tell you there's no family closer that the troops you served with. I loved 'em all, bad and good--you don't know how much until they're gone.
Saw a group of young Marines (jarheads) not long ago in dress uni's.
Damm, i was SUPER proud of those young guys--unlike a lot of us they don't have to be there.
They're vets too---you get old real quick in uniform.
God bless 'em all--old and young.
