In last months issue HOT ROD magizine had an artical about safety equptment called " Progress From Pain" where it says Jim Nicoll was killed in a clutch explosion at the NHRA notionals later that same year. as was John Mulligan in '69.I guess what would happen was all the heat and pressure from the explosion combined with all the shrapnel rolling around inside the clutch can would pull the bolts right out of the soft alumimum block buy striping the the threads.
Cool video. Jim Nicoll wasn't killed. The explosion was bad enough that most thought He couldn't have survived, He did, which is where his Superman nickname came from. He is still alive and well.

Plymouth made some great cars over the years, performance and styling wise. This was their pinnacle, it all went downhill from here. Really a shame...
