I have a set of Mickey Thompson 9 fin, SBC valve covers, part # 3376001. I was told by the PO of my '62 that they were "ultra" rare. Does anyone know just how rare they are? Thanks!

Only "ultra rare" if you find a set for a 58 - older, staggered bolt SBC...;)

There was a set for sale here a while back. Said they were only made for one or two years.

The PO also said mine were Cal Custom. I got bored and curious so I pulled them to look for a stamping and found they said M/T..

    Y'All,

Did M/T ever make a pair of finned valve covers for a SBC that had just the word THOMPSON in the middle of the cover? No breathers, no oil fill holes?

Not to start WW3, but there has been some good quality stuff made in Japan and some really bad crap made here in the USA. Like everything else, you can' paint the picture with a wide brush.

I do agree that, way back then, MT couldn't find a quality USA mfg to make his product at a decent price.

  21. How rare are they?

About as rare as a small block Chevy out of a Corvette in a Hot Rod.

hmmmm. very interesting. they made them like that in like 1962 or so but they said "327" inside and I doubt it said Japan. I almost bought a pair of those but they were chromed at one point and the chrome was bad so I passed.

any M/T valve cover without the breather-oil fill knockouts is pretty rare these days. you will see 100 "regular" 70's style M/T's for every earlier one out there.

I sold a pair a few months ago on here for 100$. I have another set too. They are the only ones I would put on my car. Not a fan of the M/T on the outsides of 99% of them.

You know, it's kind of funny-I admire the hell out of Mickey Thompson who was one of the greatest American hotrodders and innovators and certainly met an end he did not deserve. That being said, there just aren't many Mickey Thompson products I would really want to have on my car. JMTC, but I can't tell you why the big difference.

  27. What does it matter where they're made? They could have been made in several locations.

Take the old Cragar SS's, some were made in the US while others were made in Mexico. My 4" wide fronts are date coded March 1976 and made in Mexico.

Those covers will fit Canadian Pontiacs and some Cads.

And lighten up on Japan. Where the hell do you think MOON equipment comes from?
