Hi guys! Does anybody know if the doors on a shoebox ford coupe and 2 door sedan are the same length? ( coupe doors looks shorter on pics ) Did a few searches did'nt find the answer....... Kenny.
Yes length is the same..Door latching mechanism is different between 49 and 51, don't know which the 50 is like..Changing to bear claw latches would adapt either to either, or iether...lol..
The question was if the coupe and tudor sedan doors are interchangeable? did you mean that doors of one model is interchangeable thru years 49-51?
I have a 49 & 50 which are basically the same . I think it will work but the locks might be different . Measure to be 100% sure . Try John at shoeboxfords.com . Retro Jim
First sentance of post #2...""Yes length is the same"" adding between Coupe and Tudor, all three years..
There might be a difference at the top of the door, if the top is different. I ran into this problem with a Chev 2door verses a coupe.
The 49 latches and handles are different from the 50/51's. The 49's were not noted for their latch design.
What he said: '49 doors are different from '50 and '51s. But yeah, coupe and two-door sedan doors are the same. And yes again: '49s did have quality issues, as we've all discussed. I've heard of doors flying open when you drove over a bump, etc., etc.
Yes 49 coupe and sedan doors are the same. Yes 50-51 coupe and sedan doors are the same. 49 locks are different than 50-51. 49 door inside handle is square shaft 50-51 is splined.
I found my body parts book and following is whatg I found-2 door sedans and coupes use the same door but........different part number for each year ...........1949...............1950...................1951 RH 8a7020122-a.....0a7020122b.........1a7020122 LH 8a7020123-a.....0a7020123b..........1a7020123 That's book learning but the Hollander may very well have the 50 and 51 doors as being interchangeable. I don't have a Hollander so I can't tell
