Been working on my 55 Chevrolet 150 , 2 door sedan, has pickup front axle and 3x5 tubing front frame rails, blown small block, I have no idea about weights right now. I just picked up some Ansen slots for all 4 corners and need front tires. Needing opinion, Coker has 5.60x15 ProTracs . Firestone or US royal . all rated at 970 lbs and all basically 25.8 tall. I want to drive it on cruise nights and such and run nostalgia drags. What is a good tire, must be bias for the look and my choice blackwall
I'm running 165r15 cheapies on mine. Been on there all year. I've driven all over plenty of hi way miles with no problem. Mine is stock bodied and framed so, yours should be a little lighter. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad

I have ran several sets of 165r15 on my camaro's and chevelle's even on a couple of c-10 pickups with good luck, this project I want to stick with bias for the look. I apprecite the opinions, I have never owned any Pro-Tracs so didn't know if good product.
I've got the pro-trac p215/75s on my van, very happy with the ride and feel. They're 27.8" tall and fit a 6in wheel just fine.
Why does it have to be a bias-ply to be correct? Even Jim Oddy ran radials on the front of his Austin way back in the day. Put some 165R15's on it and call it a day.
Hurst Racing Tires Have front super cushions that are radial core recaps with bias-ply cap. Don't know why it works but i've had them for 9k miles and plenty of track days and still holding, The rears are Hurst aswell, Piecrust on radial core

I suppose it depends on how big a stickler you are and what your definition of "correct" is. Many early to mid 60s drag cars were seen sporting pricey european Michelin X tires on the front, still available from Coker but too short for most peoples tastes. Most or all of these guys were back to bias tires by the late 60s when the aluminum slots were all the rage. The average '55 would have sat a bit higher by then with a 5.60 15 being pretty common and it wasn't till the late 70s that we really started getting familiar with a steel belted tire here in the states. These are 560 15's I got from Coker Tire on the Americans. The other set are swap meet tires, same dimension.
These are the pretty common ones I chose to run... American Racing Torque Thrust D Rear 7", front 4.5" Rear BFG T/A radial P235/60rx15 Fronts are Coker pro-trac bias 5.60x15's
Who makes a tire like the old pirellis in front the gassers ran all the time ? Like the 33 Malco gasser. What size were those?
I made a reply earlier about towel city frontrunners based on the reasonable price. However,My buddy recently got the front runners from towel city. While I love their slicks I must say. The front runners are ugly bad. My buddy hates his. Loves his slicks though. They look too wide in the tread and a very squared off shoulder. Flat and boxey looking. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Just mine and his .02 worth
I was running 165r15 no names on my '47 Chevy coupe. No problem for two years, then one blew out on a cloverleaf 100 miles from home. I was always questioning skinnies on front on a full size car. Nice look, but perhaps not for me any more.
