Custom: 1952 studebaker truck build

This build is a full custom 52 stude truck as if done in the late 50's early 60's. Proportions are key, there is such a thing as to much or to far. I am still learning when it comes to sheet metal work, but I feel that I have an eye for recognizing bad work so I will not let anything below par go with the best of my abilities to make it right. The start of this thread is a couple of months behind the start of the build so there are a lot of pics to start. It was a daily driver before I tore into it with a 283 and turbo 350. Started with S-10 front clip(stock springs) and camaro rear end with 6" de-arched leafs as well as 7" z'd frame. The top has 2" cut out of it and a 53 olds dash going in now. The front end hopefully here soon will be getting 2" dropped spindles and block the rear accordingly . The ride height will be a good 3" of clearance. Hope My build gets you pumped for your own project as some others on the Hamb do for me.

Im liking your concept, and it looks like your doing some great work, should be a killer truck when done.I have a dream and a few pieces of one of these trucks, hope to get together one day.Keep it up looks great.

 

I have always loved Studebakers, especially the trucks. They look smooth and cool even stock. Yours should look awesome!

thanks. I am using a modified 53 olds grille and bumper with some standard looking headlights( similar to shoebox headlights, not sure what they came off of). The deck lid will be a hood and tops of fenders from a 58 dodge, and 57 mercury tail lights. I want to split the front bumper and have split bumper look in the rear with a big roll pan look. the olds bumper is really heavy looking and I want to lighten it up visually, but it has not been mocked up since the truck was lowered or chopped so everything could change.

 

Dash column drop finally done: 60-66 chevy truck steering column shortened 5" with a 61 impala wheel and a custom mount. Extended column cover to fit flush to mount. A little bit custom and a little industrial.

 

You're off to a great start.

I love Studes, I love customs, so it makes sense that I love Studebaker customs. A late '40's or '50's custom pick-up is on my bucket list of cars to build one day.

You're off to a flying start with this one.

Looks good - some really neat work there. A friend of mine just finished this one:


He fitted a '57 Chev dash I had lying around - I like the Olds one better!
It is (unfortunately?) a frame swap and he's running an Isuzu diesel - but it's his shop truck and is out there getting driven....

Franken Chevord S-Tang II Done! S-10 front end with 2" drop spindles reamed to fit mustang II tie rod ends for rack.

 

I'll be keeping an eye on your build. This looks like it will prove to be very interesting.

Put blocks on the rear end and notched the frame, just need to box it up. Once the front springs settle I will drop the rear some more to keep a negative rake.
I may have to widen the bed a little to get a bit more clearance in those really round fenders. Happy with how it sits now!!
