How do you modify them to fit other wheels?

You have to cut out the inner "cup" that the factory clips would attach to, then bond a trim ring to the outer edge of the hubcap. YOu have to make sure you get the trim rings that show the outer edge of the wheel.

Here is a photo of the repops from Mcvey's. I'm in the process of modifying these for use on standard 15" (non-cadi) wheels right now.

    Skirv,
I'll second the motion that you should do a "how to" write up with a few pictures.

Sorry...I didn't think of doing a "how to" since there was a thread or two already on here. I snapped a few photos but some of the work was already done. Not enough to do a decent tech post really. I do have a few pictures of the process, but not enough to warrant their own thread.

  15. I have some for sale on craig's NH and Boston but I don't know how to post pics on here.
    I also have some '57 Caddy's,'55 and '57 Old's and '56 Buick.

Here's the McVeys repops modified and installed. If anybody wants the few photos I took during the process, PM me and I'll get them to you. Not sure if I should clog up this thread with them. It didn't really show in photos but the OEM caps that I was running on the front of my car were pretty beat. I'm moving those to the rear....under the skirts :) .

I wish the 53's were my favorite, I have 5 almost perfect ones I could use.. While I like them, I like the others better.

Maybe somebody will want to trade :D

This is a GREAT thread! I have a set of the 16-inch sombreros that are going on my shoebox, with period Cal Custom bullets. I'll try to post 'em up in a bit.

  21. Still for sale! Gotta put them on ebay soon, save me the trouble and make an offer!

  22. I just realized mine are 16"! Were all the 16" stainless? Are they more rare?

Back up for my education. What does the unobtainium 16" Cadillac sombreros look like verses the 15"? Were they steel chromed? Stainless?

i had a pair--they were alluminum. the medalions just looked off so I assumed they were aftermarket period aftermarket repops. I think I sold them to sledge.

I lost all the photos because photobucket wants some money that I don't have... ;)

So until I pay to get more bandwidth or just start a fresh thread, I took the link out of my signature.

I will probably just make a new thread.

I took out a flickr account . you can host 1 terabyte of photos there now for free. So far I'm reallllly happy with how it's working out

  30. how do you guys think they would look on this car? (edit) i modified one to fit newer wheels, they will probably look good but i will need more narrow rear wheels.
