I mean 700R4... trying to correct that headline after posting it... Keepin an eye out for my man trying to get his '56 Buick back on the road, has a rebuilt Nailhead to hook up to the trans he has...
What about a "uni" TH350? I acquired one in a motor trade last spring, came mated to a '77 Olds, and had heard there are several makes it would mate to (hence the "uni"versal). Nailhead is out of a '64 Electra, btw.
The "uni" 350 you speak of fits a Chevy or BOP (buick olds Pontiac) but not the Nailhead. Nailhead is a bolt pattern all its own. Adapters are available to put a chevy trans on a 364, 401 and 425 Nailhead but I have not seen one for the smaller Nails. They have a different size bellhousing.
http://www.transmissionadapters.com/53-66_nailhead.htm Slap down the card and "git 'er coming!" There are several small differences that make a huge difference between the Nail's. Here is another great valuable and useful read! http://nailheadbuick.com/automatic-transmission-options-for-the-nailhead-to-get-rid-of-the-dynaflow
Thanks for the link to Bentsen's site. I had run across it before and thanks to a severe brain fart I had forgotten that they sold adapters for the early Nails.
Thanks for the links! The Nailheadbuick.com link has extra info that could help a different friend's '55 and her woes with finding a replacement rear, ways to nix the torque tube, etc. Thanks!
There is a guy selling a switch pitch turbo 400 from a '65 Rivi on the Denver Craigslist for $250. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
