'37 - '40 range..... I think. That narrows it a little. The switch handle is the same as my '40 column (different than the my '37).
40 is to newfangled for me but I would think a 40 would have a place for the Column shift shaft. Without loking at my car I would say 38-39.
Does this have a formal name in Fordlandia?? A better description than column drop. Column support? Ignition switch? steering lock? In other words If I was looking for one, what would be the right name for it?
Larry,,I had to go through all my saved images to try and help but I'm pretty sure the drop you have is a 40 Ford,, This is 38-39,, Don't have any photos of 36-37 This is 33-34,,HRP
Hmmmm. Mine looks similar to the 40, yet different. This was in my 32 when I got it. It had been brazed to the dash, luckily, so it came off relatively easily. The key is broken off in the lock. Can anyone tell if it's in the on or off position? I can get pliers on it and it moves a little, but won't come out. What do (did) the switches do? Was the key just to turn on the ignition? Starter button on the floor? What was the toggle for? Is that another button or something on the right side (first pic), the round knob-looking thing off the toggle switch? One more: How does it come apart? I've been soaking it in penetrating oil for a couple days now.
Key unlocks the column and switch .... (yes not GM’s idea) Switch turns ignition on and off Button on dash grounds the solenoid - sending power to the starter motor
Thanks. Just to keep in the line of column drop/switch housing ID... I believe my "housing" is a 35-36 as illustrated here: http://www.goldengatev8.org/tips/RestoringIgnition35-36/RestoringIgnition.htm Which will go along with my 35 Banjo wheel. I'll take the rest of this over to my build thread. I don't mean to hijack this thread.
i have a question about column drops..i have a 34 im building and it is missing and i need to find one that i can make work... .......is the inside diameter of the drop the same from 1932-40????
I believe so. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in though. I'm using 1 1/2 inch exhaust tubing for my column.
