I would like to know if there is a trick to getting the gear off of the distributor for my 216. The pin has been "staked" on both sides and I have filed it smooth. I have tried a punch to drive the pin out without success and also used my vice in an attempt to press it out, again without success. I have not tried putting heat to it as my torch is bingo fuel. ...am I missing something? Any suggestions would be appreciated. »Keith

I'ved drilled them out in the past. When they peen them it seems to expand the inside too. Drilling an 1/8" hole seems to work for me. Center it carefully!

Thank you. That was going to be my next attempt. Do you suppose a roll pin would be OK as a replacement?

not the same engine, but the drive gear in my falcon's 144 is held on with a roll pin.

Thanks for the help, I ended up drilling the pin out. It worked fine. I don't understand how there came to be a 1/4" of what looks like mud inside under the weights plate.
