I seem to get in more bs when ASSuming things. A buddy and I split a '55 merc up a few years ago. I kept the rear to use in my T RPU cause I wanted to run wires and wanted the 4.09 gear in it. typical rag from clay country with 3-4" coating the bottom. Blasted and primed the rear, pinion seal and new brakes, good drums. slid it under today, built perches and shock mounts. Went to throw the OLD WW's from the front on and didn't fit. This bitch was as virgin as any car I ever parted out. COULD/ would ford send this bitch out without none matching bolt patterns? found the front end in the inventory and has the same clay BS as the rear had. car was low miles. What bolt pattern should a '55 merc have from the factory? no spare but all 4 rims had the same shade of green. Any info besides i'm scarood?

  2. 4.09 gears in a '55 V8 merc?

Being a Ford it's most likely either 4.5x5 or 5.5x5.

5X5,Mercury used that bolt pattern, later Edsel and Lincoln, and Chevy 1/2 ton pickups too. ROY.

  6. Big RWD Buick/Olds/Cad for years had the 5 on 5 pattern as did Chevy and Ford station wagons.

The fronts might be F-100 drums too if not 49/51. Guys did some strange crap to save a nickle back in the 60's when that might have gotten swapped around.
