The generator light in my Edsel keeps coming on once I rev it up past idle. However, it seems to be charging the battery. I have put on a new voltage regulator, new brushes in the generator, and changed the backing plate on the generator. I disconnected the grounds and cleaned the connection points. I'm kind of lost here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Did you measure the charging voltage off the battery terminals while this is happening? That might give a clue.
Had something similar happen once, after weeks of testing and checking turned out it was the fuse. Hadn't burnt through but had cracked through the middle. New fuse and no more problem. Might be worth checking.
pull the bulb out of the gen lite. worked for mine! lolyou are going to have to get to testing voltage.when my gen. started going out i took it off and had a starter and alt. shop check the armature for me.bingo needed a new one. all kinda thlittle things can make a lite come onbut it help to know what voltage its puttin out before you start to repalce stuff.i even had a buddy that bought a new gen. and reg. and when it still kept the lite on he brought it to me. i cahnged the belt because it was worn smack dap out and slippin in the pulley.
Mine did the same at first. Sanded the mating surfaces where the negative battery cable connects to the engine (generator bracket).
