Barn find are still out there. This 63 Dart had the motor rebuilt in 1994 and then was put in storage in 1995. Do not know why I bought it its Kind of ugly but will make a good parts chaser and I see a 440 in its future
Nothing ugly about a 63 Dart. Any V8 really doesn't fit the car, IMO. Especially not a 440. Luckily, the early A-Body Mopar with a Slant Six is as close to God as you'll get.
Cool! Check out this month's Popular Hot Rodding...they did a weekend makeover on a late 60's Valiant 2 door that's the same color, or close to it.
Rats nest and foul gas smell was free. Only options were heater and ac cost was $1895.32 new I paid $1000 cash (old man only lost $900 in 49 years not bad) For now will just get it running again new brakes ,tires and gas tank,(make it safe) and use as shop truck to chase parts. Future 440, auto, 9" and either Lime Green, or Plum Crazy paint job Only rust is bubbles 4"x6" in right quarter easy fix.
I have 2 /6's with 3 on the tree. A '60 Ply. Savoy 4dr sedan and a '61 Belve 2dr HT with underdash air. I bought the '61 Belve. out of Dallas where it spent its whole life. I hope you leave it as it was conceived.
A friend had one with a 225 slant six and 4 speed.PLUS the Chrysler Corp Hyper Pac.Would go like stink,BUT would get great MPG if your foot behaved it`s self. Good luck.Have fun.Be safe. Leo
The only way to put a 440 in it is to cut out most of the inner fenders, which creates plenty of other problems.
I have seen kits to bolt the 440 in to the 63 I know the fire wall was a 1 off for 63 and in 64 it was indented for the v8. I know there is no headers avaible for the early Darts but header are ease to build. I am use to the challenge of putting big motors in small places worst case cut the frount end off and put m2 under it on new rails currently cramming a 500 Cadillac in a 53 3dr ford fit in the frame ok but once I put the sheet metal on there very limited room for the radiator so will be moving the motor back 2" may have to rework the fire wall to do that and then build custom header to fit around the gear box
Man, I love those darts. I'd do a super-spiff, change fluids, tires and tank..drive it as-is. Black tires, beige wheels, dog-dish caps and a little drop of the 'bars...yeah.
I had one a long time ago. GT model, bucket seats, 3 on the tree, 225 slant six. Would blow off a lot of V8 cars and get great mileage, too! Pretty rare today.
tied a gallon gas can to the fuel pump ,filled and adjusted the points, primed the carb and it balked to life sounds great good oil pressure did not over heat and the alt works ordering the wheel cly, brake hoses, shoes and master cly to day along with a complete tune up kit and carb kit will order new gas tank and sending unit tonight look for tires this weekend
When you realize that gas may never go back down you'll be happier with a slanty!!! I adjusting my valves tonight on my /.
Mark this day down, and come back in five years. I'm guessing the story then is . . . "I always meant to build it with a 440 and lime green paint, but it was just so goofy, cool, and fun that I just couldn't cut it up". Especially if the A/C works!
