My real love for cars is pre-WW11. i have a chance to score a '65 Fairlane 2 dr hardtop that is nice but needs redoing. its a 260 auto. What directions can I go with this car? Anyone have one they post pics of? open to ideas.
It's desirable if YOU desire it. If somebody else wants it, then THEY desire it. If all you want is something that others will covet, I remind you that pride comes before folly. Some of the magazines are promoting the retro NASCAR thing, maybe you could take it that way.
Finding parts can sometimes be a bit of a challenge, but here's one I finished up last fall for a buddy of mine. He wanted a 65 to be different from all the other cars at the track..
should be a good deal....not a 64, and not a 66 or 67....they are the ugly duck of the years for sure...
65's are not at all common and can make a VERY cool ride. Little known fact, there were four or five '65 Thunderbolts built.
I always loved this body due to its one year only but the 66/67 are the hot ones. I would look at an early 60s hotrod look teardrop hood and five spokes
I know where there's a set of perfect front fenders for one. One is orig and the other is NOS ford. If anyone needs them. Lippy
Chrisman had a '65 or '66 with blown injected big block. It set pretty good (swoopy like the red one pictured) and the hat sticking out of the hood was the bomb. OK I was wrong Jack's car was a Comet. I'm stricken with the dumbass.
Here is my Buddy's 65 he just finished. I know not HAMB friendy but still cool. 04 Cobra supercharged 6 speed drivetrain. Built it all himself even paint.
Definately the odd ball of the 64/67 era of Fairlane but I kinda dig them. Maybe because my cousin had a silver 4 speed 65 that he would take me rides in when I was a kid, I thought it was a really cool car then. I would say make sure the trim is there, mechanical stuff would be no issue to find but 65 trim pieces would be.
Hey ottoparts, there is a 65 Fairlane wagon on Phonix Craiglist if your really want one! Probably has a whole lot more floor then one you find near you.
