I didn't even realize hwy 2 stretched so far....Thanks for sharing the pics, and have a safe trip. Man there are some long stretches after Williston. Looks like you need to plan your fuel stops.
A great thread Bob, Thanks for taking us along. And especially liking that you found some other 'coots' while on your trip U.S.2 is a great ride across the northern states, I've done it several times when our son was stationed at Great Falls MT. Going on the 'less-traveled' routes is a good way to enjoy the country, and being in a classic ride like yours has to make it even better. Have fun!
Actually U.S. 2 starts at the Canadian border near Houlton Maine and runs to the Canadian border north of Lake Champlain on the New York, Vt. borders. Then picks up again in the U.P. of Mi.
Figured I'd better reserve a spot on this trip thread! I'll hop on board right after church.... Bob is like the old British Empire... the sun never sets on a car show that Bob has attended!
Yeah but you can't really count that, it's only a couple of hundred miles long out east. Out West is where it's at. Hey Jack, we are staying in East Glacier tonight, at the Circle R, road to the Sun closes in Sept. so we won't get to do that, might do it on the way back from Alaska next year. BB
Bob, I didn't mean to detract from what you're doing. I thought it relavent because some had no idea it was as long as it is from the U.P. to Wa. This little bit just adds to it. It's also a long gap from N.Y., Vt. to the U.P. I'd seen that Road To The Sun was closed to thru traffic due to constuction on the Glacier web site. If you take part of it I would do the west side up to Avalanche as I think that side was prettier.
Good Morning from beautiful downtown Malta Mt. Had dinner last night at the Great Northern Hotel & Casino, had the best Prime Rib we have had since we left home. Even won 6 dollars on the slots. We left Minot and headed for the oil fields around Williston ND. You would not beleive the number of wells just along Hwy 2 it is amazing and the development is staggering. There are Mobile home villages and trailer parks everywhere. We took a side road and went down to the Missouri river and stopped at a Lewis & Clark state park, there was, surprisingly no signage but we took this neat pic anyway. I had no idea that the mighty mo was this huge this far up stream, just beautifull. The Mandator entering the state shot. I'm begining to feel like Denise, she always posted a pic like this when she was on the road. In the town of Poplar Mt. on the Fort Peck Reservation sits this little coffee/espersso shop in the shape of perkulator. I of course had to have a picture and Maggie had to have a cup of Foo Foo Coffee or a Frappe or something like that. They liked the car so we had a nice chat, got to see the inside and talked about the oil boom coming to the reservation in a few years. Turns out they are already test drilling and signing with some tribal members, some of the non tribal land within the Reservation and some that is owned by the tribes themselves. There is a lot of apprehension about this development. Only time will tell if it is a good thing or not. AT LAST A CAR RELATED ITEM. We found this along side Hwy 2 between Nashua and Glasgow Mt. It is rough as hell and there was on number on the for sale sign. I don't think it is even a good parts car. But since this is the first one, I bore you with pics. You will not that I always manage to get the Chebby in there also. It was obvousily a hot rod at one time as it is nosed and decked and the door handles have been removed. The dash might be salvagable. The floor needs a little work. The hood is a lot worse than it looks. Deck lid seems ok but there are a lot of them around. Well we are headed off to East Glacier Mt. More to follow. Film at Eleven. BB
Just got a dissapointing phone call, we had planned to hook up for lunch with Sir Stude in Shelby Mt. Turns out he has to Baby Sit a Grandson. Ohl Well. BB
We missed you at the Iron Invasion. Glad you're still having s safe trip. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
You will have to go to the REAL center of the US on next years trip, just North of us in Belle Fourche SD!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing I am enjoying the trip. Just a thought on your top and windows, you might look at one of those big hardware stores for the insulated pipe wrapping to saddle over the window frame, this will help it seal for the rest of the trip.
What a great trip! Thanks for sharing. I'd love to do something like that after the kids are grown & out...
Bob, How far south are you going when you head back? I sure had fun with my grandson on Sunday, but it was too bad I could not get up to Shelby, that would have been fun too. Doug
We are gonna take the interstate back, prolly I94. sorry we missed you, we will see you on the salt though. BB
Good Morining form Beautiful downtown East Glacier Bay Mt. It is cold (34) and kinda drizzly. We saw some neat stuff yesterday. An old theater building that is now an office building with a great sign. In Dodson MT. there was this old building kinda art deco but someone had redone the front 1st story, I would loved to have seen it in it's heyday. I loved this sign on he has a lot of shit for sale, the Ammo mixed in with the Pop & Ice is a neat touch. Another cool building with a way cool sign, I wanted to steal it and put it on top of the car, Maggie said no. Why is that pic so damn small???? We all say "As serious as a train wreck". This one must have been very serious. Lots of wasted wheat. This must be the trip for coffee shops, this one is in Browning MT. Today we see what we can of Glacier Natl Park as a lot of the roads are closed for the winter. This must be one of the main intercontinential RR lines, the trains come through here about every 20 minutes, including the Amtrak passanger trains. To be continued. BB
Just curious, so are you taking I90 to Billings and then connecting to I94? Great pictures by the way. Doug
Bob, Look's to be a great road trip. I thought I best tip ya off to keep a eye open for that Sololobo Larry as he might just show up somewhere and wisk away your great wife. He is quite the ladies man.
Amazing that they just leave the train wreck. "No, it'll cost too much to salvage, just leave it." Now that's wide open space. Cool stuff Bob, absolutely love the cowboy sign.
