Source for S.W. gauge needles?

Is there a source for new repop or N.O.S. gauge needles? I am attempting to make one good gauge out of 3 bad ones and I need to find the speedometer needle.

I assume this is not really something I can fabricate myself and expect it to be accurate, although, if push comes to shove, I suppose that's exactly what I will have to do.

  2. Go to a Clock and Watch repair shop. You might just be surprised. I had them install curved glass on a full set of latter S.W. gauges and it was cheep. There are a million sizes of clocks and each has it's own length of needle.

No kiddin', George! That was a great idea... I wonder if I could find something cool like the crescent needles... Hmmmmmm...

  5. Maybe hit some flea markets and yard sales and get some cheap, non-working alarm clocks or watches to use as "donors"? Think of it as upcycling.

Keep in mind that if they are period wings, they wouldnt have had crescent needles. Crescent needles will make them look like the re-pops.

If you do try the needles yourself, color 'em with a marker, not paint--the weight allegedly affects accuracy.

there are multiple gauge rebuilding companies out there, albiet pricy. I understand if you are on a budget (me too!) but if you have a pile of parts, they might be able to help you better than guestimation of the needle fitment.

  10. All good ideas thus far but why not get in touch with Stewart Warner? HRP

SW used a lot of different speedo needles depending on the year. If you know which one you need and it is important to you, you'll have an easier time finding a broken one for parts.

I don't like the more modern needle...I grew up with the all white style. Will they interchange? Who knows.
