need to ship a powerglide trans to florida, i will be getting a shipping case for the trans from the buyer, whats the best way to ship it????
Make sure that puppy is bone dry, then double wrap it in heavy sealed plastic bags. You wouldn't believe (or maybe you would) how much fluid can leak out of an "empty" tranny.
I would build a small pallet, wrap it all up and get online for fed ex or ups freight companies. They can pick it up at your door if its light enough for two guys to lift. I've shipped many things that way
There is a trick to shipping Greyhound. 100lbs weight limit, 60" longest dimension of package. If you are dropping it at a big station they will usually go a bit over 100lbs. Small stations, not so much. I shipped a complete assembled 27 T bed (114lbs) from Detroit to Philadephia for $103 last year. I bought my Model A bed from a guy in S.D., the greyhound there rejected it because it was 117lbs. Had to have it shipped by truck for what I paid for it. If you can get it ON a bus you are home free, once it gets there they gotta get it off the bus. The station here in detroit has done stuff as big as 150lbs for me without batting an eye. Pick a big station to send it from and you will have a better chance. The rates are great you just have to work the system a bit.
