This may have been asked before but there seems to be conflicting information about this installation.

I'm looking to install a rear fuel tank in my '32 pickup.

    Which one? What mfg's?

I've heard both '32 car or '33 - '34 truck are possible candidates.
The '32 car tank seems to have the right width while the '33/'34 tanks seem to be wider?

Help with this would be much appreciated.:)

I've been reading your thread on the Barn and have not understood how the 33/34 tank could fit. The frame in the tank area of a 32 is 40 inches wide and the same area in a 33/34 is 44 inches???? The 33/34 tank is flatter on top and doesn't stick as far above the frame as the 32. Maybe that's why some think it will fit????

Hotrodprimer put a stock '32 car tank in the stock location and just cut a trap door in the bed for the cap...

remember, all '32 frames are the same for car and pickup, so the car tank will fit just fine back there...

krylon32...that's why I'm trying to get to the bottom of this.
    The Tanks 33/34 tank is 42 1/2" wide...that won't work!
The last thing I want to do is order the wrong tank!

3wLarry...yes, I heard he did this. I'll have to see if he will send me pics or post some here. I hear from others the '32 won't fit as there is not enough room for the bed to sit down on??

I'm just trying to buy the right tank.

  5. Larry is correct,but ain't he always?:D

Oops...disregard my last PM to you about the oversized ones.

I take it they are taller on top as well?

So, the oversized tanks are that visible under a pickup rear?

I'll be using the stock "long" looking bed. So the tank will be further back under the rear and may not show so bad?

  12. Honestly,I've never seen another truck with a passenger car gas tank, not to say they are not out there I just haven't seen any.

I have seen them(BPGT'S) under coupes, sedans and roadsters,,I don't think they look good,I'm not knocking anybody for using them it all just boils down to personal preference. HRP

Yup, and I understand. I like the extra 3 gallons. I think my 59A, 276ci, 4bbl, 3/4 cam flatty is going to be very thirsty!

I had a 17 gal Tanks poly in my hopped up 8BA flatty powered '35 slantback and that tank emptied pretty quick.

even with the long bed and fenders, you'll see the bottom of the oversize tank.

I've got the Tanks 14 gallon tank in my delivery and 3 window and it doesn't seem so bad with the extra depth but I've got the Vintique 16 gallon tank under my pu and it's got kinda of a droppy bottom??

Well, the Tanks 14 gallon is stated as being 1 7/8" deeper......I think the tank will show either way...stock form or extra gallon?

I guess I should make a mockup out of cardboard and stand bak and look at both depths and then decide.

I sure appreciate everyones help on this issue.
    At least now I know....it's the '32 tank...not the '33/'34.

    Thanks all.

ratrod0...thanks. I have those very pics. I could not remember if this was a '32 tank or not.
I like how he did the side filler which is what I would like to do rather than cut a hole in my stock steel floor.
This setup is more to the '33/'34 style and not sure how he got the side filler to work on a stock '32 tank and not intruding into the top side of the bed?

    Anyone know who's this is?

I used an aftermarket tank and modified it for a 34 style filler. I prefer the Ford old time look to the streetrod look. I ended up using a 39 Ford coupe filler neck.

  27. I remember talking to Barry and his dad in Pigeon Forge,Tennessee a few years ago when they were asking me a few questions about my pickup.

They went home and built a beauty! HRP

I doubt it. I looked at a lot of filler necks to find what I wanted. I got mine at Hershey. I did not know what it was when I bought it. All that I was interested in was the shape. I learned later that it was from a fat fendered coupe or possibly even a sedan. It has a vent that goes all the way to the cap so it doesn't belch when you fill it up. We don't see these because most is hidden under the rear fender.
