Upholstry finally done in my wife's A, almost

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by no6, Sep 21, 2012.

  1. Everything except the carpet. I quizzed you HAMBER'S about whether I should go white or not and overwelmingly you guys said yes. I'm a slob and was really scared and not sure but I bit the bullet and did it. Anyway the old fellow that used to do my interiors for years retired and I need to find someone that would sew straight and work with me. I found a young stitcher in Thurmont Md, Robert is his name and his business is Main Street Upholstry. I bought the leather elsewhere and told him what I wanted, he stitched it per my measurements and sold me the panel board and whatnots to install it, he had no problem letting me install everything and I thought he was very reasonable in price, he work with me like my old upholsterer and I was extremely pleased with his work. Sooo the reason I mentioned him was I like to do my own work as much as possible as most of you guy's and if you live close to him and need work done check him out, I don't think you will be dissapointed.

I really dig it... tuck 'n' roll is my favorite. The contrasting piping is a nice touch as well. Great looking "A"! Sweet!!!

  12. Dash is a 38 Ford, cowl vent is a early 50 Chevy PU, I had to split it down the middle and add a pie shaped peice to square it up, it was narrower on one end than the other.

The Model A looks great and so does that interior!

As I've been following a few other threads, this looks just as nice as any 32 Ford.:D

I'll bet that interior was far from a $17,000 to $19,000 job but looks like a million!:D

That is one sweet looking little coupe and the interior came out great. I might have to borrow the cowl vent Idea on my 31 Vic.

Funny, guys with those side and top cowl vents remove them. I left mine on my 48 Chevy panel truck. Actually made the top one two speed remote opening and closing. Even with AC they look cool and work on average days without AC.

nice car! got any build picks of the dash install? I am getting ready to cut one and use it in my 29 roadster, I like how you left all the trim and stuff. thats exactly the way I was going to do it.

  23. If I remember right I cut off the ends and had to cut the top of the dash out and reform it to fit the curvature of the original dash. On the windshied there is a cover that overlaps the original dash that I removed and I eliminated the garnish moulding and welded in solid peices then reworked the outside edges to fit the windshield sides. One thing to remember, make sure the windshield is screwed tight and a new hindge gasket is in prior to fitting, I had to leave my gasket out because it was too thick and the bottom of the windshield frame hit the top of the dash. It takes a lot of time to fit it all right.
