    Hello
What exactly is the difference between a Midget and a Sprint Car. Sorry for this question but in Switzerland are most Car-Races forbidden.

Short answer Midgets are smaller 4cyl cars. Sprints are 8 cyl and about 800 HP.

What is the logic behind this prohibition?

  7. Hard to stay neutral when you have to choose sides? :D

  8. midgets are limited by engine size not by the number of cylinders but by cubic inch displacement depending on association rules limited in wheel base and 13" wheel size.
Sprint cars normally V8s 305-360 and 410 " now have a min weight limit have longer wheelbase and 15" rims

    To Mike Britton
In 1955 there was a terrible acident in France (24h race le Mans). Since then are circuit car races forbidden in Switzerland.

Is youtube banned there like other countries ??
There are several clips showing both. Or ...maybe it's time for a road trip ?
There are several on here that will gladly point you to a good race and properly corrupt you before you leave.

I think Barobert is already corrupted!
His country has banned auto racing and told him a good reason why, yet he is reaching out for info on racing cars!:D
I saw on another forum that a guy in Switzerland with an original Superbird had to go through major work to be allowed to legally drive his OE car with wing on the road. We really are lucky here in the US in a lot of ways.

Barobert , Glad to hear that you are interested in these cars, they are amazing. As said, there is a lot of info out there on the web.
    Here's a nice one

The cars and rules have evolved over the years. Here's a cockpit view of a more modern midget.

  12. I've seen pix of that (not graphic..) and read about it. Surely changed the face of racing for you there.

Answers here are all over the place...because the question needs to be put into a particular time period to have a real answer.
And...there were actually crossovers! A few midgets became big cars via a frame stretch and new engine/wheels...
Circle track racing is an inherently insane activity, and so about as un-Swiss as is possible!

A midget is the training grounds for one of the most violent circle track car on wheels...and sometimes not...I know most of the local series are in the neighbor hood of 800 HP and a 12-1500 lb racecar, but I remember not to long ago that some of the 410" outlaw cars were claiming 1100 HP ....and before the weight limit , they were right at 1000-1100lbs...so 1:1 hp to weight with that big ass tire...sounds like a rush to me....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3bz...=fKN8JqOun7c&NR=1&feature=endscreen.....Shawn

3/4 midgets, Midgets, sprint cars, & Champ cars are very similar in layout but differ in size.
3/4 midgets have wheelbases of less than 66 inches; midgets are 66 to 76 inches, sprint cars around 84 inches, and champ cars 96 to 100 inches.
3/4 midgets have a variety of engine rules but are typically less than 850 cc.
Midgets are allowed lots of different motors between 122 and 174 cubic inches.
Sprint cars have V-8 motors of 305, 360, or 410 cubic inches depending on the club.
A few midget clubs run with wings, many more sprint car groups do.

Midget cars, also Speed cars in Australia, are very small race cars with a very high power-to-weight ratio and typically use four-cylinder engines.Sprint cars are high-powered race cars designed primarily for the purpose of running on short oval or circular dirt or paved tracks. that is the difference between both cars
