Stay strong - I'm sure you are doing all that is humanly possible. The rest is in God's hands. WWII vets are dying at a rate of 3000+ per day - my Dad is a 1-armed amputee from the Battle of the bulge, losing his left arm. It has not stopped him from doing everything and anything in his lifetime. The GIs that came home from that conflict were of a very special and unique breed. My Dad is always visiting the amputees that come back from Iraq and Afganistan, giving them words of encouragement saying that "if I can last this long and have done all I have done in my lifetime, so can you". Your Dad is to be honored, admired, and remembered - he's a very special person. Our most sincere blessings to you and your family ....
I have already gone through what you are experiencing. It will be a very hard period of your life. However, I have learned that over time it gets better, not good, just better. Cherish, what you have had together. Nothing will ever erase the good times you had with each other, nor your memories. One thing I have done that helps is whenever possible, I share my dad's sayings and stories with my family and friends. Doing so, keeps my father more alive in my heart. The guys who in the Battle of the Bulge did some hard fighting under horrible conditions in bitter cold weather and deep snow. My uncle was in WWII also and is slowly fading. He is a true American Hero, just like your father. My prayers are with your father and your family. We lost my Father in Law recently through Hospice and they did a wonderful job keeping him comfortable and allowing him to keep his dignity. Cherish every moment you have left. God Bless! Sorry to hear of your Fathers suffering.My best to you and yours in this trying time.My Father was a WW1 vet,and he passed in 1994.Still miss him a bunch.The hurt fades in time,but never leaves.One of my cousins served in WW2 in Shermans from the Kasserine pass to the Battle of the Bulge.Got his feet froze and they sent him home.He passed a few years ago from cancer. I know exactly what you're going through. Three years ago I lost my mom. Two months later I lost dad. Hard thing to go through for sure.

Spent a weak out in No Cal had i real good day to talk to him most of the time the morphine took over went a little north and spent some time swappin lies with a hamb friend
Hospice is a god send for people to pass their final days in the best and respectable manner. God bless your Dad and his brothers that fought in the Battle of the Bulge. They were true heroes. My wife's father also carried the BAR and was wounded twice and received the silver star. We are losing them at a fast rate and will be missed as the greatest generation that ever lived.

Our familys prayers are with you. Lost my father (a korea vet) several years ago but hospice was a god send. My mother, Dorothy H. Moser has been credited with being the mother of the hospice program in the united states. She started studing the european model in the early 70's by spending a great deal of time in england then bringing it back here and writing several articles and books on the subject and pioneering the program here on the east coast while working at the University of Delaware. She is unfortunatly soonto enter it also.
It is 10:55 pm and I am sitting next to my father who is taking his last breaths on this Earth. He too at 88 years of age and is a WW II Vet. Trained to be a B-17 pilot out of the Chicago 405th ready to go to a Japanese invasion that fortunately never happened. He later re_upped to fly B26's in Europe as the first line of defence during the infancy of the Cold War. I took an early retirement this year not knowing I would spend most of it caring for him at our home with Hospice as our guide. It has been a challenging several months but time I will always cherish. I am fortunate to have many great friends and family who have been very supportive during this time. I just thought I would distract myself from a little reality and jump on the Hamb when I found this thread. Thank You Dad Thank you friends.
My wife was with Hospice for years. I know they are indeed a blessing but also know no one can take away the pain of loosing a parent. My prayers are with your Dad and you both. John L
