We were wrapping up our big show Sunday, I had already put my stuff in the truck, including my camera, when it drove by. I was pretty sure of what I saw but was waiting for someone to confirm it. Talked to a friend today that asked me first thing if I saw it. Said I thought I did but wasn't sure. He was talking to the guy who told him that Sears commissioned two prototypes and his was the only one that was left. Said he drove it up from Virginia. Anyone else seen this one? And no, I didn't get pictures, it drove by too quick. So shoot me.

You may have seen an Allstate that was a rebadged Henry J sold through sears.

Google-- Sears Henry J --and there are some answers.

This one? Sears didn't do prototypes. Kaiser did them.

That's not it. I already found that one, it is a full custom done in a shop. The one I saw looked like it was factory, no frills, basic lines, but still looked nice.
Oh well, I screwed up. Moral of this story is always keep your camera at hand.

Was it this one? Found it on google. I don't think they actually ever made any, though I could be wrong.

  7. "Sears commissioned" IE Sears had Kaiser build for them....

"Prototype" .... IE a sample made for consideration to produce....

Although the guy could have easily been pulling your leg with something somebody built themselves.

From the Encyclopedia of American Cars (originally by Rickard Langworth, later updated by the Consumer Guide editors):

Two 2-door station wagon proposals were drawn up; one by independent designer Brooks Stevens, and one by Gordon Tercey, a K-F stylist. Supposedly neither made it to mockup stage, but who knows?
