scored a set of artillery wheels today with all 4 caps also and i would like to identify them, i believe they are chevy as they are a 6 lug variety. measure to be 16x5 1/2 inches. the centers appear to be forged or cast? hope maybe the hub cap will tell what they are. thanks for any help. hot rust
I know nothing about those wheels, but a quick search shows that they came on 1935/36 Chevy Master Series trucks. I used Google Image search and typed in "1935 chevy master truck artillery wheels" . The first picture that comes up shows a truck with kegs being loaded/unloaded. Wheels look spot on. Here is the link to that pic: http://www.google.com/imgres?q=1935...&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:72&tx=100&ty=95
thanks elgreco for the link, but it says in the dialogue that the truck wheels were 17 inch wheels and these are 16 inch, so the saga continues
You're right Tommy. I saw the large center hole and immediately thought Dodge, but they were 5 lug. Might be GM, but NOT Chevrolet.
Can you measure the 6 lug bolt pattern? Ya it's 6 lug, but it looks to be bigger then standard Chevy.
the bolt pattern across 2 lugs is 3 inches and across 3 lugs is 5 1/4 inches.the lug holes measure 9/16 inch. hot rust
Those are aftermarket Chev or Pontiac early to mid '30s wheels for the "Balloon" or "Jumbo" tires. The centers look to be cast, which is rare in these wheels. If tires are removed, the maker should be clearly visable, stamped into the center of the rim.
I believe the mfr. was BUDD. Look for that logo, (just the name) It should be stamped somewhere on the center. (flange part or 1 spoke)
