To scallop or not to scallop, that be the question.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Probesport, Sep 12, 2012.

  1. So a little back story here; When I was building my hotrod I tried a bunch of different looks including a scallop - which I wasn't sure if I liked so I left it off when I did the final (for now) paint.

When I was looking back at some of the old pictures I took I liked the scallop look, just maybe not the style I chose. So I am asking for your help.

If I put the scallop back should it be the same? If not, what are better options?

Will I be disappointed if I put it back on, is "clean" the best look for this rod?

  5. Wouldn't change a thing, other than who's garage it sleeps in.

Here's the truth. And this is the answer.
It looks ugly there. But just the way it is in my garage would sure look great! After all, it's gonna get cold and snow. That rarely happens here.
Love the clean look. Never gets old but scallops do!
Had a 29 4-door in flat black primer with silver scallops. Stock body didn't look bad. But better without.

Don't think scallops would be my first choice for that car. Looks pretty good plain.

I like it clean, but you might try putting it on that photoshop thread and see what they come up with. There's some real talent there.

  11. I agree, the car looks good, but I like scallops too.
Might give it a more customized look.
    Heres one idea.

Okay, you went to all the trouble to abbreviate a sedan, got it good and short, then painted scallops on it to make it look long again! WHY???

Looks great just as it is but..... I do agree adding a small amount of pinstripe might look even better.

  17. I like this idea- wonder if you could stretch the top scallop a little more?

Not to scallop, that be the answer:cool: Just a little tickle of pinstriping, the less the best. Cool car.

  20. I'm a huge fan of scallops on certain vehicles. Somtimes less is more. I think this is one of those times. Todd

I like the lighter scallops seen here. Would look goo to also do a little on the head light buckets and then a little of the body color in subtle thin stripes on the frame. My 2 cents.

I like it plain, scallop, or have you thought of a panel job. I just sent Rik a pic of a paneled coupe that he wanted last year for some article, about watson paint jobs.

  25. Man c'mon this is no subtle car.
Make this thing stand out not blend.

As a graduate of New Mexico State University, the second one would be cool to take to alumni events and football games (if I could drive around on the field at halftime) (or better yet, during the game as a WR) but outside of that, I like the solid color better.

  27. I like it better clean. What blows my mind is that you posted it and a mere 53 minutes later Vonzemo had posted a photoshopped picture for you!

  28. ^ Haha....hmm, is that good or bad ?

I think it makes enough a statement as is.. Cool car....

  30. Subtle pin stripes, just enough to draw the looker in but not enough to be gaudy.

I think that scallops haven't been done for a couple of years and maybe they are doable but I would not if it were mine. If you do decide on scallops get one of our resident artists to help you with a concept so that they don't end up looking all backyard. Even if it costs you a couple of bucks for the concept it is money well spent, it helps you not look goofy and it may even put beans on a fellow HAMBers table.

Getting back to it subtle pin stripes.
