I used to deal in a lot of old boats. Still do occasionaly. Here is one that I let go of a couple of years ago. It's a Cadillac. Check out those fins! Should have kept it.

That thing is cool!!!

 

I think it has a Chris Craft look to it. I imaging someone might have had the boat, got tired of the wood upkeep or it started to rott and someone with metal working knowledge or working around planes decided to retrofit the boat by adding the metal over the wood.

A couple of the pictures look like they were taken on Lake Michigan near the state line (Indiana). Where is the boat now?

The photos were taken off the shoreline of Saugatuck Michigan which is considered SW Michigan. Just as an update the boat would still fully function if all the wood were removed. The keel, ribs, decking etc. are all aluminum and hand buck riveted to the sides. At 20.5 feet, she also moves like a runabout.

Can't believe you haven't found the history of this boat. Someone obviously loved it enough to put a ton of money into it at some point.... Keep us updated!

Pretty fast for it's day, designed and fabricated by hand by people who knew what the hell they were doing and it looks as good or better now than it did when it was first built. I'd say that is pretty traditional even if it is a boat.

Oh, I always forget, some guys really do have one track minds and don't let any outside influences or interests cloud their minds or opinions. They tend to think that looking at or thinking about or discussing anything except a rusty old Ford is some sort of sacrilege.

 

It kinda shares some of the characteristics of a woody with the great craftsmanship. Lots of cool old boats like that up around Seattle which are fun to look at too.

I've worked for Northrop for the past 23 years, and I would have loved to have been hand-picked for that project back in the day. Northrop had some incredible craftsmen working for the company back during the time that boat was built. The old Northrop planes were works of art, and way ahead of their time.

 

That is one sexy looking watercraft. I have been looking at old boats lately, and that one sure is sweet, no matter who built it. I can understand wanting to know more, but you can sure be proud of it, whatever it's history is.
