One of the main reasons for toll roads these days is lack of infrastructure funding on the parts of the states, municipalities and federal government. The only way these big projects are getting built is through 3P (Private Public Partnerships) and Design-Build toll road projects, which are generally partially funded by the constructor. In some cases (or many cases) the constructor's consortium recoups their investment by operating the toll road. If there's a need for a big interchange or whatever, and nobody steps up to do it, then a foreign company like Cintra gets the work. The budgets are so tight on these projects that a lot of companies realize they can't make any profit on them.....Cintra, for example, just rescinded their proposal on the Grand Parkway project in Harris Co.

85 should be pretty safe on SH130 since - at least last time I drove out there - there's very little traffic on it. Its purpose was to divert 18-wheeler traffic off IH35 through Austin - somehow nobody stopped to consider whether truckers would be willing to pay to drive 50 miles out of their way. For the most part, they aren't.

    Even school zones?
Tolls fund and pay for roads yes., but they are not state owned.
Hwy death toll will rise. The tailgating around here is really bad.
Yup, 85 mph, stereo blasting, texting, one finger on the wheel, it should be interesting.
