Getting ready to go to work.

  3. It was late at night over here,I was up late watching something on the tv when a news flash come on showing the first tower burning then the second one came in,couldn't believe it,went and got the wife up out of bed,I honestly thought it was some kind of tv setup.Absolutely Shocked.Stayed up all night watching how it played out.
    Never will forget those images.

  4. When I heard about it I thought that maybe a Cessna hit the building and that the building was more than strong enough to handle the damage... because I was thinking about the B-25 Bomber that hit the Empire State Building in the 40's and that building survived fine.

    Reference... http://history1900s.about.com/od/1940s/a/empirecrash.htm

So I turned on the TV I witnessed the second aircraft which was a "Heavy" hit the South Tower and knew right away that this was intentional.

Spent the rest of the day glued to the TV and talking to my friend who was stranded at the "Reno Air Races"... known as the Fastest Race that never took place that year.

Working. Air Traffic Control Specialist. It was like kicking open an ant hill. EVERYTHING was to land at the nearest usable airport.

The most profound memory was an airliner that was adamant about pressing on to Los Angeles. He said he had secured the cockpit and had law enforcement and military personel aboard that had done the same in the cabin. They handed me a message:

"....if you do not proceed to the closest sutable airport, you will be intercepted by units of the United States military and fired on without warning. Your intentions please...."

He landed in Dallas. They were not fooling around, there were two ANG F-16's already airborne.

Oh God, I forgot today was 9/11 ! What a horrible day that was, it seemed everyone was in shock or some kind of bad dream.

I was watching the Today Show while my girlfriend was getting ready for work. They broke away to say that what they thought was a small plane had hit the tower. As she walked by me to go out the door they went to the street so you could see the building burning. By the time she had gotten to her car the second plane hit and I ran out and yelled down to her that a second plane had struck the second building. I remember her saying "What the hell is going on ??????"

All day everyone at work was glued to the TV and when they started showing the Pentagon and the Pennsylvania crashes we all knew we were in the middle of something very bad. War had come to our shores.

I am so glad we finally killed that bastard Bin Laden. I know it is pretty much symbolic at this point to finally get him, but America needed that to happen to get some sort of closure.

    God Bless America.

Don, we were on the tailend of a 3000Klm holiday and had stay the night in a beachside motel in Ballina New South Wales about 200 ks from home.Woke up early and we went for a walk. Outside a newspaper shop headline read "America under attack" . We did not understand. Back at motel wife headed for a shower, so I switch on TV. Saw planes going into buildings and thought it was Movie Show Time. Then I realised it was News, we could not believe it,we were dumbfounded. Today on radio News I heard that a lot of helpers on that day now have Cancer, how terrible

I was flying a 757 from minneapolis to chicago midway. I was close and was able to land then I spent the next 10 hours in the crew room glued to the TV. I get upset pretty easy if I think about that day to much.

  11. I was at work and my wife was at home,,we had a crew building a new addition on the house,,she called me and said a plane had crashed into one of the twin towers and I turned on the little 9" portable TV and stayed glued to it and watched in horror as the other tower was hit along with the Pentagon crash and the reports of the brave souls that tried to take control of another plane that had been hijacked.

We sat on our unfinished porch that night and gazed at the sky and thought how much the world would change because of the terrorist attack on American soil and all the Innocent men, women and children that had died.

Sad day I will never forget. HRP

I was at work, clossing up the shop. One of the other guy comes In to the shop and says: someone just flew In to WTC In NY.
We all looked at him, thought it was a sick joke.
We fired the radio up again, a heared it from the radio. At that point it was just the first plane. So we dropped everything and went home. We forgot to lock up, but who cares.
I jumped on my bike and went home.

My parents was watching tv when I got In, Odd. The I asked if they heart about the one plane that hit WTC. And Ib that moment we got the first picture of the of the second plane! That was so unreal!!!
A sad day for man kind, especialy for NY and USA!

My Best wishes too everyone who lost someone 9/11!
And a Big Thanks to NYFD, NYPD and All who took part In the rescue and clean up

Sitting in restaurant having breakfast with a few guy's talking about a business deal when I received the first phone call saying that the USA was under attack by airplanes.

I asked my sister to slow down and say that again because I really thought I misunderstood what she had just said.

We ended the meeting fast and I when home and the rest is history.

I will never forget the way I felt that day.

I had friends of mine who were in the trades who built the World Trade Center Buildings years ago and I had been there many times.

Never forget what they did that day to the USA

from memory I was on duty, we were doing night static line jumps and I was Drop Zone Safety (Medic). We were waiting for the next sortie to roll out, sitting around talking and having a little fun at each others expense.
Suddenly a civvie car barrels onto the drop zone and comes to a sliding stop in front of us, out gets one of the 'Airborne Troop' (Training troop) soldiers and he explains what had happened. The only problem was no one believed it was that bad, that was until the unit CO and the RSM arrived. That was it for the night all aircraft were grounded and I was now on Duty (carrying a rifle) all night in the Medical Center, not much was happening so we sat and watched the TV all night.
It was shock and a type of awe watching the continuous feed from the US.
There was also a strange feeling, we just knew we were going to be deployed.

    Doc.

I was getting ready to leave to go to work in a Downtown Los Angeles Highrise. I then called in and left a message that I would not be coming in cause I thought that might be their next target. I later came to find that I along with my family knew people who passed in the towers, it was truely a sad day in American history, and as happy as I am with the way things turned out with Bin Laden and the Taliban nothing will ever bring them back, nor the service men and women we have lost since that horrible day. "TRAGIC" , I Know I Will NEVER FORGET!

  20. I was working at a defense contractor out on the Island. It was about 9:15 AM and I heard about it from the cashier in the cafeteria. By the time I got up to the offices to spread the news, it was on all the TVs and the 2nd plane just hit.

I figured it was a small plane accident at first. Not much work got done that day. Some of us went up on the roof above the 3rd story to watch the smoke plume.

Wasn't long till I looked up over the tree line and told the guys if that plane doesn't get higher it's going to crash turned out that it did it was flight 93 .

My wife and I were meant to be in the towers on that fateful day, but my wife set the alarm wrong and we slept in. Turns out we were still on Australian time and we got woke up by her sister screaming and banging on the door believing that we had left already. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone.

High school shop class. They turned the tv on just in time to see the second airplane hit. Sooo surreal. The rest of the day was spent watching the news.
