Actually customs didn't become low and slow until the '50s. But the little ford looks like it reaches escape velosicty real quick. That is unless the film is speeded up. What's it got in it?
I guess its only down to personal choice. Its not like there is a rule that says kustoms need to be slow, or lowriders. I personally dont care for speed, but i like a nice fat engine on a well finished kustom. For example theres a car in Lifestyle that is a 64 'vert that has an insane super detailed injected 409 under the hood....best of both worlds.
Mine is always driven LOW and SLOW but when I need it, I just hit the loud pedal and up pops the 454 Cu In and 700-R-4. Not too many people see under the hood. Here is a peek !!!!!!!!!!
My '55 Caddy has a '70 Cadillac 500" engine and a T-400 tranny...it has plenty of go when I need it but I drive it easy...it's got plenty of guts when I romp on it...there is no hard and fast rule about a kustom being slow... R- If you want to read (and view plenty of pix) the 5 1/2 year build of the above Caddy, go here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=329070&highlight=the+best+55+caddy+build
It has a stroked 351 with 450 plus hp, 5-speed, 9inch with 350 gears. It all started one night when he was headed home from a cruise night and a guy pulled next to him in a '55 Chevy, blew the horn and punched it, leaving the , then 302 powered, '55 Ford in it's wake. At that moment he said to himself, "That is never going to happen again"! So far, it hasn't. I might add he is 74 years old and still full of that competitive desire. The "Customs don't go" heading was an old 60s cliche and not meant to disrespect customs in any way. I know there are many customs out there today that can scoot.
I dont know if the 55 falls into the Custom category, but it sure is the ultimate original appearing SLEEPER!!!! I just love it.
