So a guy I know has this 62 Fairlane 4 door shell. We were bantering back and forth about how I want to get back into racing. As we were talking he brought up the Fairlane. I went and looked at it. The pictures tell the story. What's there is it. Nothing more. No rust to speak of either. I don't believe there will be any money trading in this deal. Thoughts? Comments? Ideas?
"I don't believe there will be any money to trading in this deal...." I'm sure there is a question hiding in there somewhere.
What Bishop said...been there, done that. There might not be money involved now, but there'll be plenty later... Unless you've got a large stash of Ford parts at the ready, buy something more complete.
Best to just walk away, dont scrap it maybe somebody down the road will be willing to bring it back to life and have the parts to do so.
That looks like a good replacement shell for a guy who already has a rough and or rusted out Four door the same year and model but even free it isn't going to make an inexpensive race car missing that many body parts.
If someone was giving away a Peugot it wouldn't be worth what it cost to haul it off. What can you get in scrap for the 4 door fairlane?
While it is a 4 door and not the most desirable car out there, someone somewhere is struggling with a rusted out hulk of one and would love to have this relatively solid shell to start with. It would be a shame to see it go to the scrapper. In lots of States guys would love to have such a rust free car to fix up. Don
You know, someone out there has a smashed in quarter panel and if FUMING that you guys are thinking scrap.
Yeah don't scrap it! Try and let it go to someone in need of it. Granted it might take a lil bit of time. Just think its a sad thing to let good metal go to waste at a scrapper
Uh, I am probably completely off base here but I got the inmpression that he was thinking of building a door slammer out of it. A more door would be a door, door, slammer, slammer.
Fenders and hood for 62 are year specific. Not much in the aftermarket available for the 62 like there is for 64. You get all the suspension pieces you want from RCmotorsports.
Could it be converted to a 2 door post with the right parts? I have seen some pretty incredible 4 to 2 door conversions on this board.
Looks like a real solid parts car. Quarters, torque box's, rad support, rockers, etc. Somebody, somewhere could use that stuff I'm sure. Basis for the start of a race car? No.
This one is up to you. But if we are voting I'd vote run away, don't walk! Let the owner find someone who really could use it.
