I met a tiny rattler about the size of a pencil. he didn't have a rattle yet but he was the meanest snake I have ever seen. scooped him into a box and put him out back.

if you want to kill something, kill a person. got way too many of them and they are screwing everything up.

Snakes can be found where the is food supply. So they kill rats. Rats carry and transmit some really bad shit. I know a man that catches snakes for harvesting venom and sell some to local churches. His favorite place's to harvest is near cafes and any place that sells food. I myself will always try to catch and relocate.

I am with you on this one!
I have seen people that have been bitten by copperheads, and there is a lot of suffering involved, at the very least.

And also remember the ol saying about copperheads, if you find one, you will probably find another, so I would search my shop real good before I crawled back under the car.

Yup, no snakes, bears, bobcats, gators, coyotes........ quite boring really. We do
have a couple of poisonous spiders and shit loads of possums, of which a couple live in my workshop, they sit on the rafters and watch me fibreglass, I'm sure pretty soon I could put them to work:rolleyes:.

  11. In my garage, house, or anywhere inside I'da killed it, then changed my underwear! In it's "natural habitat" I'd leave it alone and at a distance, then changed my under wear.

Where we used to live we would find snakes all damn day long! the first one would make me in to a little girl (scream & run away OK-maybe pee down the leg a little) we go back & catch it take down the road to a big lot & let em loose, come back & a neighbor would have also so back to the lot!damn!
In my heritage you only kill what you will eat--DAMN! but if it was a super danger situation & i had no choice---- it's done deal! i say a little prayer for it's spirit & go on.

I'm a stupid and ignorant person. I have poor social skills, too. That's why I use an emissary, Mr. Winchester, to handle all my snake interactions for me.

We have a creek that runs through our property and see copperheads all the time. Most I will ignore until they come near the house or shop, Thats when they don't make it back to the woods.

  16. When the wife was pregnant with the girl we lived in an old block house on a slab down in the Ozarks. it was common to get up in the oorning and find a couple of copper heads laying on the slab by the front door, I actually picked up half a dozen one morning. I used to just go out and carry them down by the creek where they belonged.

They weren't after us just wanted to stay warm at night.

Glad no one got bit, that hurts like hell and makes some folks real sick.

Dang, that would be enough to startle a person! I'm not scared of snakes but I'm very happy we don't have to deal with posionous ones here. My brother moved from Michigan to L.A., Lower Alabama that is, and he has ten acres there and has adapted to the snakes and black widows pretty well. He told me if he sees a three foot snake in the yard he makes three one footers out of it! :) He worked at a repair shop for a while and said that brake cleaner works the best to clear black widows from the cars.

    Holy shit, I hate snakes. The only good one to me is a dead one. We have the deadliest snakes down under. Here's the World top 25, the measure generally acknowledged as best reflecting how dangerous a snake's venom is is that of LD50. The lower this number, the less venom is required to cause death. <table border="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td>Snake Species</td> <td>LD50*</td> <td>Distribution</td> </tr><tr><td>1.</td> <td>Inland taipan</td> <td>0.025</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>2.</td> <td>Eastern brown snake</td> <td>0.053</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>3.</td> <td>Coastal taipan</td> <td>0.099</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>4.</td> <td>Tiger snake</td> <td>0.118</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>5.</td> <td>Black tiger snake</td> <td>0.131</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>6.</td> <td>Beaked sea snake</td> <td>0.164</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>7.</td> <td>Black tiger snake (Chappell Island ssp.)</td> <td>0.194 - 0.338</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>8.</td> <td>Death adder</td> <td>0.400</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>9.</td> <td>Gwardar</td> <td>0.473</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>10.</td> <td>Spotted brown snake</td> <td>0.360 (in bovine serum albumin)</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>11.</td> <td>Australian copperhead</td> <td>0.560</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>12.</td> <td>Cobra</td> <td>0.565</td> <td>Asia</td> </tr><tr><td>13.</td> <td>Dugite</td> <td>0.660</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>14.</td> <td>Papuan black snake</td> <td>1.09</td> <td>New Guinea</td> </tr><tr><td>15.</td> <td>Stephens' banded snake</td> <td>1.36</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>16.</td> <td>Rough scaled snake</td> <td>1.36</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>17.</td> <td>King cobra</td> <td>1.80</td> <td>Asia</td> </tr><tr><td>18.</td> <td>Blue-bellied black snake</td> <td>2.13</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>19.</td> <td>Collett's snake</td> <td>2.38</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>20.</td> <td>Mulga snake</td> <td>2.38</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>21.</td> <td>Red-bellied black snake</td> <td>2.52</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>22.</td> <td>Small eyed snake</td> <td>2.67</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>23.</td> <td>Eastern diamond-backed rattlesnake</td> <td>11.4</td> <td>North America</td> </tr><tr><td>24.</td> <td>Black whipsnake</td> <td>>14.2</td> <td>Australia</td> </tr><tr><td>25.</td> <td>Fer-de-lance</td> <td>>27.8</td> <td>South America</td></tr></tbody></table>

I was laying under my 31 Chevy reached for a wrench and there was the biggest Fuc*ing snake I'd seen in the 5 years I lived at my place, a buddy always gave me shit for killing the damn things so I thought I'd get my leaf rake and escort him out doors, but noooo he was going to escort me clear off of my 5 acres, so after blasting him in half. I took over to my friend's front porch just to piss him off! I hate snakes!
Makes my skin crawl just typing the story! Yuk.

  22. Here is a copperhead statistic that many probably don't know. It is an old statistic so it may have changed.

1 in 10 of the untreated Copperhead bites in the united states end in deah, 1 in 7 of those are death from infection and the others are people that are alergic to the venum.

Certainly not the most deadly snake in the world, I have been bit twice. the first time my Dr gave me antibiotics and the next time I treated it myself. But times I puked and it hurt like hell.

I actually have been bitten by lots of things, I am not a real smart man I suppose. Usually get bitten when I am doing something wrong although once I got spider bit and it was not my fault.

Honey Bees scare the hell out of me.

  24. I'm still stuck on the snake stick. Matco or Snap-On? I don't think I would want a shop that requires a snake stick.

Glad to hear you got the little bitter.

I don't know what is more disturbing though...the fact that you had that in your shop or that you own a snake stick because you have those in your shop.

I'll take the snow in Buffalo, NY all day long and twice on Sunday.

I would take a snake, an alligator, and a rabid monkey before I had to deal with a Florida spider...

A few years back while out fishing at my favorite hidden bass pond I had quite the adventure. I couldn't wait to try out my new high dollar graphite rod and hadn't paid too much attention to my surroundings after I laid all my gear on the ground. Now I have hunted and fished in Oklahoma a long time and run across snakes quite frequently, but was not prepared for this encounter. I had tried a few casts and was going to change to a spinner bait when I noticed a rather large copperhead within about a foot of where I was reaching into my tackle box. I removed my hand very slowly as the snake was watching my every move. I usually carry a 22 revolver loaded with birdshot just for "close encounters of the snake kind" but had some how left it in the truck. This snake was not retreating but actually inching closer. WTH I thought. I glanced around for some kind of weapon and spied a dead branch about 3 feet long close by. Perfect, I thought. I picked it up and was going to swing it at him to scare it away when the rotten branch broke as I swung and landed right next to the snake. This, I guess, must have pissed him off, because he started coming straight for me very quickly. This caught me completely off guard as I had never had a snake actually chase me before. I used my new graphite rod to try to deter him to no avail, so I started trying to hit him with it. This seems rather silly now as I look back on this as by the time I had convinced the snake to turn away I had completely beaten the end of that new rod to pieces.

Read in the newspaper, People were camping in sleeping bags. Rattle snake crawled in sleeping bag and curled up on mans chest to keep warm. They had to smoke it out so it wouldn't bite him. I bet he shit himself.

  30. I used to see rattlesnakes on my property. Since I saw a huge speckled king snake out back, I have not seen any other snakes at all. He's the boss.
