took apart the motor to put in a new cam, upon putting the lifters and rockers back on i noticed two small oil holes on the rocker arm shaft, not sure if they face up or down. im guessing when the shaft fills up with oil it falls through the holes lubing the rocker arms....facing up or down is the question...

In all practicality it wont matter. the restrictive part is the hole in the rocker arm. the pressure and flow is determined by that. If there isnt excessive wear on the shaft, its fine. lets ask squirrel
the 3 big holes are for the bolts to attach it to the head, the smaller holes are for oil, not to be confused
The oil holes go down. Lets apply some reasoning. If the oil holes were on top, the rockers would be running dry until the shafts fill and the oil starts exiting the top. With the holes on the bottom the oiling starts 'much' quicker. The oil holes on my '38 were down when I pulled them and they are down now.
