Hairspray! Yes, really! The aerosol kind works best.

Try it in an inconspicuous area 1st, but rubbing alcohol will remove permanent inks. If it's colored it may "bleach" the color, that's why you want to test 1st. If not rubbing alky, denatured alky also works. Blot it up while it's wet and avoid scrubbing it in if it's a light color. Flush with water after and dress with a quality vinyl protectant.

  5. mineral spirits
    non-acetone nail polish remover
    whitening toothpaste
    liquid hand cleaner [no pumis]
these may have to be applied multiple times

Nail posh remover with acetone will also get out permanent inks, but it also melts some plastics, so try it on an inconspicuous area first.

    I think your screwed.
You might test some Rosonol lighter fluid in an inconspicuous area, checking for discoloration.

    What color is the vinyl?
    Find or mix some paint.

    WD-40 works too.

    I've also had good luck w/ Goof-Off.

Those 'Magic Erasers' your wife has hidden under the sink are good too...

X2 Used it years ago to take price ink off canned items in the grocery business. Test an area first before using it on the good item.

I did the same thing silver sharper on black vinyl, wife used WD-40 worked pretty good. Tried acetone on a scrap piece and it faded it.

Vinyl is pourous so if it is a permanent marker you will never get it all out. Marine vinyl is not all the same. General Tire (Mississippi plant) used to make marine vinyl with a top coat called PreFixx. If you are lucky and have that product it will respond to the above suggestions without damage. Be CAREFUL and good luck.

I have been sewing some white marine vinyl lately, and a hamber said to mark the sew lines with a lead pencil, and that you should use an eraser to clean off those lines later.

It worked for me, and an eraser took off some contact cement also. The marine stuff does seem to have an outer layer to prevent stains like you'd expect to get, on boats.

pretty sure it will work on vinyl... but when i was younger we used to carry rubbing alcohol wides into the bar and when they marked a big black X on our hand.. walk into the bathroom stall and wipe it right off...works on skin should work great on vinyl. not that i condone this type of behavior anymore.....

Yep. Just dampen a rag and wipe or dab the sharpie off.

I have used brake fluid to take ball point ink off vinyl. Allways try it in a hidden area first.

I don't want to know how on gods earth some of you found these solutions out.

I'd try get a large sample of vinyl, a felt tip and then try any or all of the above, with the exception of go-twichy's example! Before you try them on the seat.
