Hey everybody, I just had a passing thought. I'm curious about any classics with a 3rd row, or possibility for a 3rd row seat. Any ideas, other than suburbans?

How old of a car are you looking for? Wagons had 3 seats in the 50s, although not in all models.

My 65 Fairlane Wagoon had the option. I plan on putting a 3rd seat in it 'cause the boys LOVE riding back there.

Otherwise, Classic Vans, especially Econolines make good family rods.

EArly model desoto's from about 37 through to 49? (I dont mind being corrected) came as 7 passenger sedans and more than their fair share were taxi's as a result

How many are in your family? Back seats were bigger than most cars these days. My in progress 52 was a means to solve a growing family with a larger trunk and more elbow room. My 29 tudor is good for local runs, but no room for 4 plus luggage. Good Luck.

Wasn't Howard Cunningham's Desoto from Happy Days one of those?

Didn't the Hatfields have something like that? Or was it McCoys...

  14. Nova Wagons had a 3rd row seat option

Or you could get one of these, chop it and add a Desoto grille...................................

I've always been a fan of the early 60s Econoline/A100/Corvair vans. When done right, they look really cool. And you can pack the whole tribe in there for a cruise.

  16. Anyone know if a '57 Buick Caballero had a 3rd row available. Those were cool looking wagons even in stock form.

We are about to pop number 3. But number 4 might not be too far down the road. Just trying to think ahead. No vans. Pictures would be helpful if you have time thanks for all the thoughts. Please keep them coming.

At that pace, you're livin up to your last name!

Seriously, wagons can be made to look cool. 1950's 8 door airport limos are cool but pretty scarce.

Other possibilities might include very early Stude '15 -> ~ '18 Tourings. A lot of them had jump seats in front of the rear seat. 7 passenger tourings. I *think* some of the later Studes w/the sliding roof ('63-'65) had a 3rd row seat option, as maybe did the full size wagons, circa '56 -58. & some were badged as Packards. Other options would be looking at Limos. Not the aftermarket types, but the long(er) wheelbase factory OEMs. 20's through late 40's. Used as airport shuttles, etc. Sometimes even used as real limos... :D . Could look into any early-20's->mid-30's "upscale" any-brand 4-door top-of-the-line long wheelbase. Lots of room in back, could add jump seats easily, or even change seating positions, if originality isn't important.

I have 5 kids myself. The problem is you can't just pile them all in the car until they're out of car seats. Car seats take up as much room if not more than an adult. Even once they're out of the 'big' seats, they still need a booster for a few years.

The early Vista Cruisers also had that option. Mine has a 3rd seat for 2 people - facing forward.
