I've got a SW Tach script logo Engine Revs x 1000. Dial is 0 to 45. Would I
be able to use this with a stock 283 and stock muncie? This tach has curved glass, a shorter red needle, body is slightly over 5 inches long and 3 /2 inches
in diameter with three wires exiting the back. I don't know the year or the voltage. Numbers 414983 on dial face.

4500 RPM for a 283 ???.....I would find something that goes to at least 6K.

The tach you have needs a special sending unit to work.

If you are able to find the matching funky sending unit for the SBC (not likely) it will cost a mint. And the gauge is probably a 6 volt. Should be stamped on the backside in ink, probably orange. Also look for an other numbers stamped on the back in ink, as we can probably date it from those.

As for you keeping the 283 under 4500 RPM, that's up to your right foot.

  4. I may have the sending unit you need- will take a pic of it and post tonight.
