Well here it is my first build. Picked this car off of CL for yes... $1000.00. Not to bad really.

The bad... Quarter panels, door bottoms, rockers and tail pan have some rot through. Drivers door glass is busted out, front floor pans are rotted through. The engine does not run, which i am not to worried since i have another engine currently at the shop getting hopped up.

The good... Once quarter panels, rockers and tail pan are replaced, the chopping begins!!!

    Plans for the build...

For the power-train: I currently have a 235 out of a 58 Biscayne at the engine shop getting rebuilt. Crank is getting lightened and balanced, oversize pistons, port and polish the head, Updated valves and seats (so i can run unleaded) custom ground cam, bump compression, clifford tubular headers, and a tri power rochester 2gc carb setup. Which is something i have not seen done yet, but if so post some pics on here so i can get some ideas. I will also be using a 700-r4 trans for the overdrive.

    Chassis and body...

Frenched headlights, antennas, tail lights (which i am not sure which ones i want to run yet) It will then be Chopped with slanted posts, shaved drip rails, shaved gas tank filler door. I will be running a fatman kit up front with air bags, and using Gambino Kustoms notch, custom 4 link, with custom bag mount and bridge. As far as paint goes... I have to much work ahead of me to think about a paint scheme at this point lol. Well let the rodding begin!!!

What you got there is what I would consider the perfect project car:

    • The price. Looks like a great deal for $1k.
    • The trim and (most of) the glass is there.
    • It needs work, but it's not one step away from the scrap yard. I always like a project that will require a bit of work and maybe make me try/learn something new. It's not much fun if it's too easy or too overwhelming.
    • There are still parts available for it.
    • Most importantly...... it's a cool car and it's yours!

Have fun and keep us posted :)

Also degreased and hosed out the engine bay. I need help identifying this engine cause its going up for sale. It has the captins bars above the starter and from what i read this is a 261 but i am unsure.

here are some pics of the engine and some of the casting/stamping marks. What is it guys/gals?

Awesome! Thanks for the photo shop work there. Gonna save this pic for sure. Makes for a good yea look what i did last night... But not really. It would look sweet without a chop to and all slammed to the ground.

Engine build sounds stout. 3 2gc's seems like a lot of carburetion!

according to the serial number LAQ should be a 1953 235, cylinderhead number would also fit for a 53 235

Yea the engine build will b pretty stout for sure. As far as my avitar car it's a 50 also that I own. Mild custom that I might be making a roadster out of.

nice start , wouldn't shave the drip rail though.
keep everything you're not using and sell when you're done.
i thought about 3 dueces, was going to block front and back off. run on middle one only. hook up linkage and dummy fuel lines. good luck on build and keep us posted.

Nice part of my setup is the outers will not be dummy carbs, the engine will support them. My manifold is in process of getting made. As soon as i have some pics i will post them. I am picking up a compressor here in a few days so i can run my air tools. So body work has not been started yet. im sick of sanding for 2 min and waiting 5 if you know what i mean.
