Wow! A guy in a 200 year old family business reshaping by hand a 71 year old bumper in such a cool looking hearth! You can't get any cooler than that! True old school craftsmanship sometimes seems like a lost art but every now and then something surfaces to give us all a smile and something to appreciate.
Plus the $50 price tag ain't bad either!:D

Thank you Carsten. I hope to be in Hamburg again very soon!

Thank you Plung for the kind words. If you're going to do something, you may as well do it properly.

The end of the bumper/splash pan build is in sight. I went over to my buddy Jaap and we welded in M10 threads in the bumper, so it's smooth now and welded the brackets onto the splash pan. The metal around these welds slightly warped the area next to the brackets, so I'll need to hammer the areas in order to flatten them again. Test fit tomorrow!

Great work Eric. One of these days I will get back to my Amsterdam layovers and hopefully meet you. The attention to detail is off the hook and the end result will show. The blacksmith shop is very cool. That anvil looks like it might be heavy!

WHAAAATTTT!!!!! A freaking blacksmith! I've never even seen a blacksmith! That is amazing! You never let me down! I can't believe the build quality every time I see an update it just gets better and better. This is my favorite update since the first time I ever saw this build and saw that motor sitting in your house!

Very nice work Eric, I like the rear roll pan and bumper look. I think I might try to hammer form the piece that the trunklid rests against and the location of the trunk lock is.

Thank you n847. The blacksmith was certainly a nice and artistic person who knew what he was doing. These guys know their metalwork!

Thank you plmczy. I'm not too sure what you mean......sorry.

The bumper will be smoothed and re-chromed to the max!

    Thank you my friend!

Glad you like the thread Tanktank49. I'll keep it in mind if ever KLM decides to let me go.

Joe, this guy was a true professional.

I think that by doing that you lose some of the symmetry. I like the fact that there is a clear line where the fender end and the bumper begins. Thank you for thinking along, it is appreciated as always!

Finally got the splash pan and bumper assembled again and modified it slightly here and there. Then took it apart once again, drilled holes every 8.25 cm along the back of the splash pan, sanded it all and gave it some primer. Next week I'll drill holes in the bottom of the body, attach the pan (this will bring the pan up slightly and closer to the body) and do the very last adjustments. I promise.:D

I'm happy the way it looks now, but I won't be happy until its perfect.:D

Thank you hemi v8. I feel that I'm getting closer to finishing it by the day.

Thank you Finnrodder. After seeing the end result on the car, it was certainly worth it. The old pan would have iiritated me and I would have made a new one in the long run anyway.:D

Thank you OahuEli. Thank you again for the inspirational photoshop!
