Jim Dillon: Thanks for posting the pictures of Dick Moroso's corvette. I spend a lot of time back in the mid 60's at Performance Automotive and learned a great deal from Dick. I was about 18 years old and if you loved drag racing this was the place to hang around. It seemed like everyone who was someone in drag racing would show up on Saturday's to talk about racing and even do a little out on the old State Street road which was just around the corner from Dick's shop. I have tons of memories of listening to Dick explain how to make a small block engine really run. The corvette in the picture as so much history to it and I don't thing Dick son Rick would ever part with that car. It just was such a large part of what later became Moroso Performance. I still have the Performance Automotive decals and I think I ever have the very first catalog that Dick ever offered which was only a few pages long with the girl on the cover. Jimbo
Thanks, if you are talking about my car. I like Jim D's car also. Jim, I hope all is well with you. Here is another picture of it. Jim
DOUBLE VISION My car and my buddy's 61 vette 434. In my garage for an engine refresh now. Picture is 4 years old. QUAD VISION Pocono Drag lodge 1st reunion 2009 All drag cars, some times Gas, some times M/P. All are still racing today. My car and the green car raced there in the 60s til it shut down.
I love this thread. This is exactly what these cars were made for. Racing. Whether it was drag racing or road course these things were made for racin'. If you wanted to pose at the country club get a damn T-Bird.
The driver Ed Whyte is a good friend of mine. its funny we where just talking about this car. He bought the car off of Wes and restored it back to original after they finished racing it. I asked him one time, what RPM did you leave the line at? He said to the floor.LOL I'd take a little blue smoke out the pipes to have national record holder.
This one raced in the Northwest in the late 60's, early 70's, Gary bought it from Californian Bill Bagshaw, it was known as the "Red Lite Bandit".
Baron great pic. Bet that car was a bunch of fun. Is it still around? Marty here is the Red light bandit. Cool to see some history on these cars. Know whatever happened to it?-Jim
Hey Jim. I just read ( a couple of posts back) where Ed bought the car and put it back to stock. I'll see Ed in the next couple weeks (we have two more nostalgia drag meets coming up) and I'll ask him about it. The 65-6 in the picture is his current race car. Runs consistant 10.0's ( and has high 9's )with a 406 small block.
Baron, sorry I missed that it was put back to stock. I am one of those sentimental old fools that is sad every time I hear such heresy-Jim
The picture above is from the Nationals at Indy. I was with him this morning and he's still contemplating running the car at the nostalgia event. He wanted to tear it down and check it over. But with the season almost over may just change the oil and run it.
