What model car was offered witha rumble seat as a factory option for the last time? Hint.....it was in the fifties! No google, no wiki, use your brain bucket!

There was a rumble seat option for 55 - 57 T birds called a bird nest or some such, but it was not a factory option it was an aftermarket conversion.

AMC built a Rambler show car with a "Ramble seat" in about 1964 but it was never seriously considered for production.

I'm going to say the last factory made rumble seat was 1936 or 37, any others were not made by the factory, at least not the same factory that made the car.

No web searches, life lines or reference books were used in concocting this post. I made it all up out of my head.

Yes that's my Final Answer ha ha.

  3. 39 fords had a rumblle seat I'll bet one of the independents built one later.
the 48 ford 3 window in my avatar has a rumble seat pretty sure itls not factory any more than the electric sun roof
we are talking American cars right. they might still be building rumble seats in India or someplace!

Something makes me want to say the Nash Metropolitan, never seen one and don't know if they ever made one but it seems to ring a bell.

No rumble seats in Mets! They didn't even have a trunk lid at first.

Yep! '40s kicked the rear of the roofline way back and effectively killed the space that the rumble would have fit into. Kinda important to note that '39s had rumbles only in the convertables.

Well...I didn't really know the true answer,RustyOToole had it right. I always thought it was the 57 t-bird. It turns out that this option was dealer installed and NOT factory installed like I thought. It was indeed called the birds nest and Amos Minter T birds still installs them!I did some more research and he is the winner of the trivia question. First prize is a 85 Yugo. Thanks all for your responses.

Just to add to the Ramble Seat answer... That was proposed by one of the designers (a Jeffords... can't recall first name) and made it into the 1966 prototype/show car. AMC didn't want to touch it for the production car because of liability issues, and because it upset the balance and handling of the car. Jeffords went on to make it available as an aftermarket item -- and AMC quickly noted that the addition of the Rambler Seat would void the warranty on the car.

  30. Actually rumble seat is not the proper name it is properly called a mother in law seat.

I cannot think of a single '50s car that would have had a factory rumble seat and the newest car that I can think of at least in the ford line that had a rumble seat would be the '36 Ford.
