Women getting into cars and hot rodding is great , but if you want to see what a friend of mine in Illinois is doing herself than check out my gal pal Lisa Phinney, she's on the Hamb, go to PHINNEY and look at her photo book, she is amazing and has 3 kids to boot, check it out you will be amazed.

I don't think its too far fetched. My mother shot rivits for Lockheed, and my Grand mother welded just as good as the old man.

    Yup.
While im messing around and making hotrod noises with my buddies, My chick is studying and taking notes...Seriously, like note books full.
I knew she liked this stuff, but when one of my friends made an off hand comment how 11:1 compression was too much for a "street car, running 91 octane"
She spoke up and started explaining valve event timing, in relation to cylinder pressures.

    Thats my girl. :D

Some girls get it. And when they do... It rocks.
Hotrod girls ARE the best, and NO i DONT mean the faux pin-ups  I mean the REAL, nitty gritty, down with it. pop the clutch and scare you in the passenger seat girls.

Plus, they just look much better in these things than we do...FACE IT

    Keep it up chicks

  15. Not just girls I am afraid. there are grown men right here on this board that will never get it, they just don't have it in them. Some of them know that they don't get it and they do fine and others just seem to continue to screw things up.

Aptitude is not necessarily gender based, nor is common sense.

I agree with Johnny above, but i dont know if my ego could take some of these hardcore ladies like Denise, Brandy, or Megan diagnosing and fixing my car problems quicker than I can. So i will just keep putting them up on a pedastal for now!

  17. I don't care if they fix my stuff. I have fixed enough stuff for one lifetime.

I've worked on cars for as long as I can remember. Helped my dad when I was a kid. My poor dad never could afford a new car so he was always working on them out of necessity rather than a hobby. Guess that's how I learned. Years ago I had a 58 Impala sitting in the driveway that I was working on. Guy from down the street comes to the door and asks my mom if he could talk to the "guy" that's working on the car. She tells him it's my daughter. Needless to say he was surprised but we became good friends. He was a collector, so to speak. Passed away a few years ago leaving behind a couple 64 Impala SS, 55 Chevy, 3 OT Montes. All restored and driven daily. Great guy and from a generation that one would think might not be too open-minded about women working on cars but he thought it was great. Currently building (or trying to) my first hot rod...47 Ford Coupe. Someone else's failed project. That might have been my first mistake...lol

"Transformers" would have been a waste of a movie if not for the scene with Megan Fox playing mechanic... Jus' sayin'... :D

  23. I don't get bothered about my wife, she does play dumb real well. She has always known how to be right and take the sting out of it.

What I hate is when she catches me in a helpless situation and then strokes me. :D:D

  25. I envy you! Soooo cool!!!! You lucky lucky man!!!

  26. Yeah man my girl drives out model a just about more than I do, she is on the look out for a single spinner project she know exactly what she wants even better she wants it to have a flathead and triples which is sweet for a 20 year old girl. Meet when we were both 17 and our first date if that Wat you want to call it was to the nostalgia drags and party that night girls with hotrods are cool

  27. I think it's out of the norm only because I've had a few women in my life who said they loved this stuff and wanted to do all kinds of things, but then they would get discouraged or lose interest when I tried to get them to work on something with me. Crazy thing is, I'm not the type to get mad or treat someone like they are dumb or have no business doing something because that's total bullshit and no one benefits from that. I would love to have my girl right next to me working and getting dirty! Keep doing what your doing BetsyVanDeVille!

I think female mechanics are great. They have some very real advantages. They don't try to "overpower" a stubborn part. They tend to think through consequences better. They are often more creative, with a lighter touch on their work. And they are less likely to try to fake it when they come to something they don't know.

Their disadvantage, of course, is their distraction to us males who are around them!
