I have recently picked up a 58 impala convertible, this car ha 2 quarter panel vents per side instead of one like I have seen on most others, is the second vent something someone has added?, or is it original on certain trim levels?, Any info would be appreciated Al
Important question. Where did the '58 come from? Did the car come from the SF Bay Area? Please post a picture of it.
Your a funny guy.....I hope it is...if you look at google images there are several with the dual vents, do you have a pic to upload wolf man
What Al is asking about is the oval pieces of trim at the bottom rear of the quarter panel. Some cars don't have these pieces some have one and some have two Whats the significance ? Is it a different trim level ?
You are talking about the things that look like exhaust exits, correct? Behind the wheel opening? I have never seen those stock on a '58 I think that those are actually '59 or '60s Impala pieces.
That's what he's talking about Porknbeaner They seem to be on a lot of the 58's The one he has has 2 just like the pic
They were an accessory, and an ugly one at that. I had a '58 4 door in HS that had one on each side. They are supposed to be exhaust outlets...yeah, right...
I got a 59 chevy fleetside truck years ago....it had two of them on each side. Probably added on. I can't find them in the 1929-59 Chevy parts and accessories catalog.
seems like late 50s early 60s chevies used "faux" vents.. 57 faux exhaust vents, faux roof vents, etc.. some of it looks pretty cool imo..
They are called exhaust ports and were accessories on 58-60 chevy's http://www.lategreatchevy.com/full-...nel-exhaust-ports-best-quality-1958-1960.html
So if they were on the cars from the factory why 2 on some cars , one or none on others. Or were they just an add on that some owners just did.
you guys are wrong about those ports. They are not Factory "Bling" or accessory or whatever. Those are simply just custom add-ons that were sold thru places like JC Whitney or some local Custom store once upon a time. They just happen to be popular to use on early Impalas. Click on the link below. http://www.shop.thenightprowlers.com/1958-1960-Chevy-Dummy-Exhaust-Ports-dummyports.htm The set does say 58-60 Chevy but again it's a really a generic custom piece based on the Buick port holes that someone could add to any car. Once again, they are most common on 58-60 Impalas, but not original. On a short note, places like Pep Boys and AutoZone sell new square "Port Holes" that are often seen on P.T. Cruisers. Who knows maybe one day, people will think that those Port Holes are original to P.T. Cruisers.
Funny how some people will speak all matter of fact about something and are SO wrong. Explain why these NOS exhaust ports are in the GM factory box or why it would be listed in the 1958 Chevy accessory installation manual?
