I have recently purchased a 401 Nail Head and it has a Super Turbine "400" on the back. I was wondering if there was some help figuring out if this is worth using or should try and find a regular turbo 400 what are the differences. The ID tag says

    65J 241

    Serno. BJ65-11848

    Thanks for the help.

    1965 buick 400, I'd use it in a heartbeat

Beware that the torque converter, front pump and input shaft are different than the "normal" 400.

I have Chevy 400s converted to the Buick variable stator design in both of my old Chevys

As far as using it do you think a complete rebuild would be necessesary? I do not have much experience with Auto transmissions what do you think a good going through cost?

If you don't know the history of it, I'd suggest an overhaul...but how much you need to spend on parts depends on what condition it's in. If the clutches are still nice, you can probably just get by with a reseal job, and new front and rear bushings. If you want to spend more on it, you can.

They're not too difficult to work on, if you want to learn....there's a Ron Sessions book that tells you everything you need to know.

Buick transmission, J is the application code, 65 is the year, I think the rest is serial or build date info
