My first time doing this. I have about 8 hours into this so far. Front door installed, post moved back and welded in. Rear door cut and tack welded in position. I think i'm doing pretty good for the first time.
You made some good progress for a full days work .. looking good. I really appreciate anyone who can give some dignity to what was a homely four door by making it into a two door. I'm going to be doing the same to a 1958 Mercedes four door sometime in the near future.
Looking good dude i feel your pain ,but it's well worth it ,have a look at my posts for any tips ,different car though ,it looks like you have it under control , enjoy
Awesome! I have been back and fourth on doing this to my '56 for a couple years now. Some days I don't want to and some days I do
Back Seat Entry ? Easy...just use a "flip back" 2 dor front seat,....... Great project !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4TTRUK
Here is the drivers side that i worked on this weekend. Got the door installed door post installed and back section tacked into place. Cut out the old back side window and tacked the new frame in.
I dunno...a bud of mine did a '55 Chevy he bought from Oregon. Had a terrible time finding tudor doors! I have a '54 Ford Coupe. Thank God! (I also had a '54 Ford fordor parts car. A friend was interested in it, had a rear-ended tudor. I suggested he convert the fordor. He said I was crazy) LOL
Looks good. On both of my conversions, I used the door jamb from the donor car instead of moving back the original pillar. Curious to know why you did that with yours, but it looks like it'll work out nicely regardless. Also, if your donor car didn't have a stock front seat in it, your 4 door seat can be made to fold forward by removing a couple of bolts on the sides, making the whole back of the seat fold forward. Not quite as convenient as a split seat but still very functional. Be sure to post more progress pics.
I don't have a donor car just doors and side window frames that's why I moved the pillar back. The new doors close way better than the stock ones.
Been a while. Lost my job you would think I would have more time to work on my car but was busy trying to hussle up work. I will be starting on her again in the next few weeks. I will post updates then.
