need floating grille ideas

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by MoparMan4GZUZ, Jul 15, 2012.

  1. I want to put a floating grille in my 53 Dodge truck, but would really like some input from you guys on what you think might work. I have a 52 Buick grille, but it is kinda toothy, looking for something different. I looked at a 53 olds bumper extension, but its too long, guess I could narrow it, but like I said, looking for some input.

  3. I wonder what a '55-'56 Imperial grille would look like on one of those?

The bar used on the '55 New Yorker might work.

It might be that any other car grille might just not look right in that opening, so maybe a tube grille that you make up from small round tubing would look the best. Then you could either have the tubes chromed, or paint them silver or somthing like that, or make them out of stainless tubing to start with which would only require polishing.

I can't get my head around any existing car grille that would work with that pickup without looking tacked on. There might be one out there, but I would have to see it to know how it would end up looking.

The one Spoggie pictured actually looks pretty good IMO.

What bumper are you going to use?
If you are planning on modifying the grille opening,I can see a 46-48 Olds grille in it.

  11. your pics wont show up :(

  12. I have a 51 Dodge car rechrome bumper to put on the front. I do not plan on modifying the grille area, would really like a single bar floater in it.

50 Plymouth would suit the front of that with a cheap repro 57 Chevy truck front bumper, IMO

What about a more subtle approach, like two top bars from a 54-56 Dodge pickup?

Here it is with the 53 Olds bar.

The turn signals are off a 56 Dodge. I used almost everything from this picture:

I vote the 53 olds. I like that best, IMO the 2 bar looks kinda stockish

I'mm digging the two bar, myself. Might have an easier time finding the turn signals from a '53 Chevy 150, 210, or Bel Air though. They look VERY similar (minus the amber) and are probably more easily attainable due to the abundance. Just a thought!

  20. done deal! I found a set of 56 Dodge grille bars for $50!

Are they both the same width as in the Photoshop pic or are they staggered like the ones in the pic of the red truck?

  22. staggered, but I have a chop saw and a welder.....

10 4. Was just wondering. I didn't think the staggered bars would look as good in a symmetrical opening, but sounds like you got it covered!
