I know several of yall know the answer to this Where is the build tag (pre runner of the vin tag) on a 1954 chevy pickup, I thought it was on the firewall in the engine compartment, but then me and that thinkin stuff dont always get along well LOL Friend is fixin one up, found some original paint and was wondering the origian paint code. Thanks in advance ps and it will be fun to see what the different parts of the country calls the damn thing, one of my favorite parts of the HAMB LOL
The tag you are looking for should be on the left door jamb between the hinges. If it has been removed there will be two empty holes there. It should show the gross weight of the truck and have a space where there is a number stamped in it. It should look similar to the one in this add http://www.classicparts.com/1954-Door-Post-ID-Plate-Chevrolet/productinfo/33-015/
Notice there isn't a spot for paint color on that tag.... but there is on later ones http://www.classicparts.com/1958-59-Door-Post-ID-Plate/productinfo/33-023/
The number mentioned above is a serial number- there was no vin number as we know it today, engine numbers were also used to register some of these trucks back then. Color codes are available on the web just match with the original color. Good luck with your project. Jim
