I'm one of those nuts who like to grease and oil mechanical joints so that they move so smooth. Trouble is I seem to make it worse by attracting more grit and grime. Ther's white grease for hinges etc. any silicone or recommendations for hoods, doors and such?
if grit avoidance a high prioity...you might try colloidial suspended graphite. There is zero residue (except the graphite where its needed).

They sell some stuff at motorcycle shops called "Dryslide" It works pretty good. It's graphite based.
