The rear alternator is a Power Gen bracket and alternator. I made the yokes etc. I was concerned about all the variables. I think Speedway does sell the Power Gen Kit.

I made a similair setup for my 3W about 10 years ago, It worked great but the units used to fail after around 12 months, I put it down to vibration as it was always the bearings.
On my 32 roadster i mounted a Jap alternator up front of the prop slip yoke, so far so good.

    Rolling frame looks good.

I thought the alternator bracket had too much flex, so I ran a bracket down off the top link brackets and have the alternator pivot bolt run back to that bracket through a piece of DOM instead of haveing it only pivot on the mounting bracket. I'm a ways from knowing if it helps, but figure it can't hurt:

Are the cowl hoops for cowl steering mounts? How are you connecting them to the chassis? Bob

Just a few more from the weekend. Looks like some minor frame mods to get the Fentons to clear as they should.

Thanks, Sota - this chassis is using the bearing adaptors for the Buick hubs like the ones I just sold you.

  19. Ok this is the ultimate dumb question but I have to ask it anyway because it is something that I don't know. Why the spud driven fuel pump? You are going to run a return line and a regulator?

BTW I do think the fentons are pretty slick as well.

Beaner - no bumb question. The cover is leftover from the past and as a minimum I like the way you shim the cam end play with this cover. I do like the look of the pump too. I love injected dragsters, sprint cars, and super mods, so I'd like an engine that looks a bit racey. I don't think I can run it as is since it will return too much fuel and most likely overheat the fuel tank. So I don't have it completely worked out, but I'm wanting to somehow incorporate it into engine. One of many works in progress.

nice work jim, glad to see other mainers here

  22. I was wondering the same about the fuel pump. I don't think it will work but if you get it sorted out and make it work let us know. What frame is that? Is that a heavilly modified original or a new aftermarket piece?

  23. No doubt...and no surprise on the short life. That setup is going to see a hell of a lot more vibration than if it were engine mounted.

Frame rails are flattened, pinched at the cowl, and risking rath from the from the gods, lengthened in the engine bay.

  26. Maybe if you went with the smallest pump and ran your return though a cooler of some sort or a very large return line.

  27. what about running a line that has cooling fins on it. I think they are used in a/c units but they would allow you to cool the return before dropping back into the tank.

  28. this is an image of what I was talking about.
