Does anybody have any knowledge of Ford Steering boxes. I'm rebuilding a 1937 Ford box and the build kit came with really thin gaskets (about 5), are these for shims?
And if they are, how do you know how many shims to install?
I've replaced the bearings and races, so the old shims wont be any indication of what is needed.
    Thanks for any help.

The thin gaskets are for the worm preload. Either start with none or all and remove or add one at a time until you feel a very slight drag when rotating the steering shaft.

Thanks, I'll try "remove gaskets" method and see how that works out. I'll also see about the book. Thanks

Vern Tardel has his own web site, so I went there and punched the book, his shipping was very reasonable. I was going to buy it from SoCal, but they wanted to charge more in shipping, than the book cost. SoCal wanted $13 for shipping- Vern Tardel charged $3.67. I hate it when company's try to make money on shipping.
