Be safe up there. San Diego manages to burn down every 5 years or so. Evacuating 30 horses from a friends ranch when they were on vacation was interesting. The damn fire was moving so fast that everytime we dropped them somewhere that place would get an evacuation notice. I think by the end of it they ended up in the mall parking lot.
Its time to give my uncle call and make sure hes doing fine.

To cheer you up, I found this card while cleaning out the Cyclone. Interesting what you find in someone elses trash in their old car!!!

    Very interesting find!

Maybe that Cyclone has some history behind it.

Now you've got me motivated to continue my search for a '64.

If you can't find any History on that 66 Cyclone do what the Chevy Guys do. Remember there is twice as many Z-28's out there then what was Made.
Being in Southern California it looks like one of the Stropp Built 66 Comet Cyclone's that had the 390 ci FE that ran C/SS. Or it may be one, there hasn't been hardly any pop up. ~~~~AFX DAVD~~~~

That is the old Don Nicholson - Eddie Schartman Comet in its last configuration, it was then owned by Steve Bagwell and called "Strang Stuff". Later buried back of his shop near Atlanta when he finished racing it.

    Oh no!!!!!

I should have bought it when it was cheap. Now that you said what you said, the price will probably TRIPLE.

    That would be awful.

The story goes--the flywheel exploded and sort of cut the car apart (supposedly) so they buried it (yes) in the ground and then dug it up when Brent? Hajek bought it. Syl

I heard that the only thing that was worth saving on that Comet Wagon was the two vent windows. According to some Restoration Folk out there, that's all you need. Anyway I have pictures of the underbody of that wagon. I just got look deeper in the Black Hole. If you ever been over here you know what I mean.~~~~~~~~AFX DAVE~~~~~~~~

Dave your place is not that bad considering all the treasures you have in that building. Next time I stop will make enough time to just sit down and visit as to gather in on all the history you have experienced and know....AL

I really enjoyed my tour and short visit.

The '66 has a racing history in Southern California. I'm trying to piece it together, and possibly get in contact with the owner, for some pictures, as it was towed and raced at Lions..... Think it may have found a home with us for awhile. :)

On the 66 Comet, What type of Traction or Lift Bars are connect to the rear housing and where is it connect to the sub frame? Are they something like a 64 Thunderbolt except not squared off below the rear housing. If you can take a picture of it that will tell a lot. ~~~~~~~~AFX DAVE~~~~~~~~

ATTENTION ALL...there's a '65 Cyclone on Craigslist in Warner Robins Georgia. Body only, needs a lot but has the factory FG hood. Factory 4sp car. Asking 3500.00...Last factory FG hood I saw was on Ebay couple a years ago going for about 2000.00...
    (It's NOT the A/FX hood)......
There's also another Cyclone in the Winder Georgia area for 3500.00...
    Looks pretty decent.

Alright I'll trow in my Two cents on 66 Comets.

Heres a pic of a 66 427 comet Cyclone that ran here in Colorado back in the day. Out of the Joffers Auto Body stable.
They ran the ex Courtesy Ford T-Bolt, a 63 Lightweight Galaxie, a 69 Boss Mustang, and three Pro stock type mavericks one Cammer powered and Two Boss 429 powered.

Would love to find this one here in a barn somewhere

Ken- Truly a great picture! Thanks for sharing it!!
Dave- This one is definately not one of the aftermarket-prepped units. The funky clamp/traction bars looked like an add-on. Nothing radical enough to make it a "rare gem" in the H/M or Stroppe era....

Thanks sharing the 66 Comets with us, I never had a chance to see them Race back then! Uncle Sam had was Racing to Draft as many of Us that he could. When we got back everything changed. I know this is 64/65 Comet Site at least this keeps it going until more Pictures of 64/65 Comets get shown.
Thanks for letting me know about funky clamp/traction bars. Those 66 Comets are out there some ware, just keep looking Guys. ~~~~~~~~AFX DAVE~~~~~~~~

I think that is Tom Cowards 65 B/Fx there on the return road.
