Looking for help,1940 Ford 221/3 speed New flywheel, preasure plate, throwout bearing, parts are correct to this car. I have 5'' top pedal play with adjustment all the way out and forks barely touch throwout bearing ? could the rest of the clutch pedal assembly be so worn out to cause this. ? ( PS I am new to this site and trying to navigate around ) any help from a expert. CR
Clutch pedal assembly is quite likely NOT your problem. Almost sounds like either the wrong clutch assembly itself (where the three clutch arms end-up being spaced too far away from the throwout bearing), or the throwout bearing itself may be too short (too thin when measured front to rear), or possibly even a combination of the two mentioned wrong parts (not likely). Ditto, DD Coopman,...... 5" is way too much free play. You said "new flywheel", "new pressure plate",...What about the disc ? Another thought...is the pin that secures the release fork to the cross shaft broken ? 4TTRUK
